NURSING RESPONSIBILITY 4.6-6.2 x10 /L PRE: Check the chart of the patient and 140-180g/L carry out doctors order. 0.40-0.54% Explain the procedure. - The purpose of the test. 4.5-11x109 g/L - The procedure, including the site from which the blood 45-73% sample will be obtained. - That momentary 0-4% discomfort may be experienced when skin is pierced. - The puncture site is cleaned with antiseptic. An elastic band is placed 0-1% around the upper arm to apply pressure

and cause vein to swell with blood. - A needle is inserted into the vein, and the blood in an airtight vial or a syringe. Send laboratory request form. INTRA: Assist medical technologist while the procedure is being done. Assist patient during the procedure and provide emotional support. POST: Place patient in comfortable position after the procedure. Wait for the

result. Check venipuncture site within 5 minutes to be sure hematoma is not forming. If hematoma develops at the venipuncture site, apply warm soak which eases discomfort.
