Cold Mechanical Straightening Process For C 54

A study was first conducted to determine the pattern of distortion in a C 54-2 column by measuring it at 1m intervals. Jacks were then used to apply pressure at points along the bend to straighten it, bracing the column at jacking positions to prevent overloading. The process was repeated until the column was straightened within the specified tolerance while monitoring movement to prevent over-straightening.

Cold mechanical straightening process for C 54-2 column 1.

Firstly a study was carried out on the pattern of distortion through line checks at interval of 1m throughout the beam. 2. Jacks were used to apply pressure at points along the bend with intervals to bring into alignment. 3. The adjacent of the beam is adequately brace at the jacking position in order to prevent overloading. 4. The process was repeated until the beam is straightened within specific tolerance. 5. During the process the movement was observed to insure over straightening does not take place on either side of the beam.
