Power Free Basics

The document summarizes how a power and free conveyor system operates in automotive plants. Accumulating trolleys ride on power rails using retractable dogs to engage with pusher dogs on a power chain. When a trolley encounters a stop blade, its retractable dog disengages from the power chain and the trolley is held in place. Following trolleys accumulate behind the stopped trolley through actuating levers disengaging their retractable dogs. When accumulation is complete, the stop blade retracts and the trolleys' retractable dogs reengage the power chain to continue movement down the line.

Power Chain Disengagement
• When a retractable dog encounters a stop blade, it is pushed down,
releasing the trolley from the moving power chain. The disengaged
trolley is held in place by the trolley holdback dog
• (against the stop blade) and an anti-backup device.

Trolley Accumulation
• When the actuating lever on an accumulating trolley
engages the cam tail of a stopped trolley, it pivots up,
pulling down the retractable dog, disengaging the power
chain. Following trolleys disengage the same way.
