Essay Topic: What have been the impacts and potential significance of remittances on the Development prospects of the Third World? Answer the question by focusing on the case study of Sub Saharan immigrant workers in the US/Europe or in the Middle East.

Thesis Statement: Remittances have a significant effect on the positive development of third world countries. Money sent back by immigrants in the form of remittances serves to reduce poverty in third world countries. It advances economic development by simulating the local economy and providing finance for investment. Remittances also function as insurance by providing a safety net in case of a disaster. Lastly contrary to recent claims they not create a dependency. Argument 1:Remittances provide a stable flow of economic aid to third world countries resulting in a reduction of poverty. Remittances are often invested in the attainment of human capital which reduces poverty. Economic development by simulating local economy and ensuring stability. Provide finance for investment in countries where credit may be hard to attain.
