Is Teaching A Science or An Art

Teaching requires both science and art. The science involves understanding techniques to effectively impart knowledge to students, which can be learned. However, it also takes artistry since all students learn differently and great teachers can make even boring subjects interesting through their unique style and passion. While curriculum is the same, individual teachers explain concepts in many different ways, and the best teachers inspire students through their enthusiasm. Therefore, teaching is considered both a scientific and artistic endeavor.

Is teaching a science or an art? Those that can't do - teach". The knowledge of subject itself is probably considered science.

yahoo's dictionary that i use says: science: The observation, identification, description, experimental investigation, and theoretical explanation of phenomena. art: Human effort to imitate, supplement, alter, or counteract the work of nature. kind of bogus, boring, definitions. I think the more important underlying question is: "what is the key of getting what's in my head into others and generate the same enthusiasm that I have for the subject matter?" The ultimate goal of a teacher is to make disciples. People who perpetuate the discipline they are wishing to convey. Take tennis for example. Someone invented the game. That someone taught the game. Now it is an never ending perpetual reality of disciples! A funny thing... You can take the same exact curriculum and have different teachers explain the same thing in infinitely different ways. However, only a few can make the subject interesting and appealing (if the subject in and of itself is in the beginning boring to the student). What separates them???? The sum of the matter is this! It is an art! I believe it is an art that can be learned, like replicating a person making a cake. If you like the way a cake tastes, then copy the baker! Then teach someone else to make the same cake, and so on, and so on... Does that make teaching a scientific art??? Different opinon: It is both. Knowing how to impart information to others is a science. It is an art because we all learn differently. Different opinon: a very good question. Teaching in my view should be science but they way it is conducted in most places it is art. the current teaching mechanism is "Transfer of matter from head to head". I belive the mechanism should be "test of reasoning brought out in kids". To explain instead of telling kids that 1+1 = 2 they should themselves be taught to question and reason why it is that way and why not 1+1=3 or 1. Different opinon:teaching is both science as well as arts.while teaching the person uses his own skills and methods which makes thing more interesting and easy to understand.
