Hong Kong's external trade performance saw overall growth in 2011 and the first two months of 2012. Total exports increased 10% in 2011 and 1% in January-February 2012, driven primarily by re-exports which increased 12% and 4% respectively. Imports also increased substantially, up 11% in 2011 and 3% in January-February 2012. However, Hong Kong still maintained a large trade deficit which narrowed significantly from 2011 to the first two months of 2012. Electronics remained the largest export category but saw slower growth of 9% in 2011 and 3% in January-February 2012. Exports to China, Hong Kong's largest trading partner, increased 9% in 2011 and 1% in the first two months of 2012.
