What Animals Eat
All animals need food for energy and growth. Many animals eat plants only. Cows eat grass, giraffes eat leaves, snails so eat leaves and aphids feed on plant sap (juice). These animals are called plant-eaters or herbivores.
Other animals eat meat only. Lions hunt grazing animals and hyenas eat the leftovers. Eagles eat mice or snake and spiders eat small insects. We call these animals meat-eaters or carnivores. Some animals eat both plants and animals. Mice, baboons and jackals, for example eat fruit and insects. Many people eat meat and vegetables.
