Introduction

The document discusses rail transit capacity, which is an important measure of a system's ability to handle passenger demand. It is determined during project planning and operations to ensure adequate facilities exist to comfortably and safely accommodate peak hour passenger volumes now and in the future. Key factors that influence capacity include train capacity based on car and passenger numbers, re-occupation time between train departures and arrivals, dwell time for boarding and alighting, and operational margins for variability. Passenger capacity depends on train frequency, which is determined by parameters such as train length, performance, flows, layout, and critical stations.

Introduction Capacity is an important measure of a rail transit systems passenger-handling capability.

It is determined to ensure that a line is built, expanded or re-equipped with adequate facilities to handle the peak-hour passenger demands both in the near and long term, comfortably and safely. Other features of capacity are as follows: Project planning and operations analysis for new starts and extensions, Evaluating transit line performance, Establishing and updating service standards, Studying environmental impacts, Assessing the capacities of new signaling and control technologies, Estimating changes in system capacity and operations over time, and Assessing capacity impacts in land-development studies where transit is expected to provide a significant role in site access.

Objectives
To carry out the survey on the one of the MTRC station and to calculate Estimate the actual passenger capacity (passenger per hour) of this train route Calculate the theoretical maximum passenger capacity (no. of passenger per hour) for this route Calculate the minimum station headway

Theory
The maximum number of passenger spaces past a single point in an hour, in one direction on a single track, is the design capacity. It has two factors, passenger capacity and train capacity. Train Capacity: is the product of no. of cars and the no. of passenger in the car. Major determinint factors: Re-occupation time: the time between a departing train and beginning to move and the next train coming to rest in the platform Dwell time: the time during which a train is stationary alongside the platform, primarily allowing passengers to alight and board An operational margin to cater for minor perturbations

Passenger Capacity: Number of passenger in the cab and depends on the train frequency which is in turn determined by the following parameters: Mean train length, eg, mix of eight car and twelve car trains Train performance, dependent on low speed tractive effort Identification of the critical station

Passenger flows Train layout, in terms of seating and standing capacity and doorway and vestibule widths
