SAP SOLUTION MANAGER 7.1


SAP announced a new version of Solution Manager to be released in 2011: version
7.1. This new release will enter ramp-up in Q2 of 2011 with the customer release set for midst 2011.

With the upcoming version 7.1 SAP leaves no doubts about its strategy on Solution

Manager: Solution Manager will become the 'ERP for IT' of the future. Solution
Manager will grow to an integrated set of tools, supporting both business and IT in optimizing the deployment and usage of their SAP application(s). Bearing only one goal in mind: enabling business to act swiftly, flexible and efficiently on changing markets and economics.

Solution Manager will become a 'single source of truth' for the SAP environment of any organization, acting as a 'spider in the web' for both business and IT.

SAP claims Solution Manager to become an indispensable tool for any organization

using SAP applications to support their main business. Not just on a tactical or
operational level but definitely also from a strategical point of view.

Functionalities of SAP Solution Manager 7.1


With the extensions and improvements planned for version 7.1, Solution
Manager will grow into a mature, fully integrated platform for Application Lifecycle Management, Business Process Management and IT Service Management. Global roll out and template management in 7.1 - Being able to adapt business process to changing economics and market situations is of growing importance to each type of organization. SAP Business Process Library - In the area of Business Process Management a (common) SAP Business Process Library will be one of the most significant changes in version 7.1. Not only will this new, central 'process library' be the foundation for all process related functionalities in Solution Manager, it also

will be shared as a common base for NetWeaver BPM, SAP ECC, SAP PI,
Enterprise Repository Services etc. Advanced ChaRM integration in 7.1 - Change Request Management (ChaRM) will be significantly improved and extended in version 7.1. First of all ChaRM will be integrated with CRM IT Service Management thus adding a number of service oriented functionalities. Another important improvement will be the integration with Test Management and Quality Gates.

Functionalities of SAP Solution Manager 7.1


Business Process Management in 7.1 - The growing importance of Business Process Management & Monitoring for almost every organization will definitely be reflected in Solution Manager 7.1. Version 7.1 promises a number of significant changes on the BPM area. Service Desk in 7.1: the new ITSM - The full integration between Solution Manager 7.1 and CRM ITSM leads to a new user interface for both Service

Desk and Change Request Management (ChaRM). Not only will the CRM
based UI become the main interface for all service processes in Solution Manager, also different (ITIL based) roles will get their own, different UI. Enhanced Business Blueprint in 7.1 - The Business Blueprint functionality has been part of Solution Manager for a long time and is considered to be a very valuable functionality. However, one of the disadvantages in the current version is the lack of both a graphical user interface and modeling

capabilities. Therefore SAP introduces a new, graphical interface for Business


Blueprint through the RCP client. This new feature enables an easy, intuitive way of modeling and configuring business blueprints in Solution Manager.

Alpha Sirius Upgrade Toolkit 7.1


The full integration between existing Solution Manager 7.0 service processes (Service Desk, Change Request Management and Issue Management) and CRM 7.0 IT Service Management (ITSM) implies a drastic change

to the customizing of these service processes.


For example, service processes like Service

Desk and Change Request Management will


use a complete new set of CRM transaction

types in version 7.1.

License Strategy 7.1


The license strategy for Solution Manager 7.1 will differ from previous versions and introduces three different types of license options. The graphic below shows the three license options in version 7.1:
