During the semester we will navigate through the fundamentals and principles of language evaluation, the different types of assessment and the design of evaluation procedures and tools. We'll also address crucial topics in today's predominant approaches such as standards-based assessment and the use of standardized testing. Finally, we'll address some practical evaluation techniques designed to evaluate the four skills. Objectives: This course is designed to help you: learn the basic principles of language assessment become acquainted with the main trends in language assessment make informed decisions about the types of assessment that best suit the needs of you teaching contexts. have a better understanding of the why's and what's of current trends in language assessment use different evaluation tools and procedures effectively.
