Welcome back to Term 3. We have a very busy term ahead of us culminating with senior examinations at the end of term. This is a change for seniors as we normally have their examinations in Term 4, but NCEA has been put forward and it doesnt allow us enough time to hold them then. All students should be consolidating the work they have done so far and organising their calendars so that they complete all work. Another highlight of the term will be Tournament Week which is starting on the 3rd of September. Other dates to keep in the back of your mind are the 6th on September (Staff Only Day) and the 7th of September which will be a holiday. Our yearly exchange with Reporoa College takes place on the 12th, 13th and 14th August. Many students, and ex-students, see this as a major event and rightly so. It is great to see tradition preserved and I have no doubt that it will be as fiercely competitive as ever . We hope to see you at the games. Congratulations to the Taniwha Cup rugby team which came second in their tournament over the holidays. A number of our students were in this team and of note is Reece Shadbolt, who was selected for the Northland representative team. Looking ahead in sport we are to increase the number of our students playing for school teams. It is our hope to have at least two rugby teams playing in the Whangarei competition next year as well as a mid-week First XV. Hopefully all other codes will be strengthened as well with greater numbers of students being involved. We are currently applying for funding to replace all of our team uniforms. A big thank you to the PTCA for sponsoring the first set. Finally, our senior students should be working on their study timetables leading up to their internal and then external examinations. They can get assistance in this task from their subject teachers or Academic Counsellors. They should also be asking their Academic Counsellors about the number of credits they have successfully completed. It is also extremely important that your child attends school regularly. Our aim this year is to achieve a 90+% attendance rate and we are currently achieving this. I am, however, concerned for a number of students whose rates are below 70%. Students cannot be successful with rates as low as this. Contact school if you would like to check your childs attendance.

Have a good week everyone.
