Overview
This document is meant to be a guide to help new users configure, program and operate the TeleSAFE Micro 16 controller, in a timely fashion. It is not meant as a substitute for the TelePACE Ladder Logic and TeleSAFE Micro 16 Controller manuals, but rather as a companion to these manuals. A strong background in both programmable logic controllers (PLC) and personal computers (PC) using Windows is highly recommended. If any problems arise during the setup, it may be necessary to then consult the appropriate manual or call the Control Microsystems Technical Support Department for assistance.
Power, input and output (i/o) wiring must be in accordance with Class I, Division 2 wiring methods Article 501-4 (b) of the National Electrical Code, NFPA 70 for installations in the U.S., or as specified in Section 18-1J2 of the Canadian Electrical Code for installations within Canada and in accordance with the authority having jurisdiction.
WARNING !
EXPLOSION HAZARD - SUBSTITUTION OF COMPONENTS MAY IMPAIR SUITABILITY FOR CLASS 1, DIVISION 2.
WARNING !
EXPLOSION HAZARD WHEN IN HAZARDOUS LOCATIONS, TURN OFF POWER BEFORE REPLACING OR WIRING MODULES.
WARNING !
EXPLOSION HAZARD - DO NOT DISCONNECT EQUIPMENT UNLESS POWER HAS BEEN SWITCHED OFF OR THE AREA IS KNOWN TO BE NONHAZARDOUS.

Quick-Start Procedure
Connect Input Power
Connect the 16Vrms or 24V wiring to the AC/DC PWR IN terminals on the 5203/5204 board. Do not apply power to the controller at this time.
3.2
3.3
Connect a null modem cable from the computer serial port to com2 on the TeleSAFE Micro 16 controller board.
Insert TelePACE Programming Software Diskette #1 into the computer floppy diskette drive and run the setup.exe file included on this diskette. Follow the instructions and install the TelePACE Programming Software to the computer hard drive.

3.7
Make a list of all I/O modules that are to be connected to the TeleSAFE Micro 16 controller. Include 5000 Series modules as well as on-board I/O modules.
Select Controller Register Assignment. If 5000 Series modules are to be used, select ADD and enter the module which corresponds to the particular 5000 Series module. Select a module address from the Address box and ensure that the 5000 Series modules dipswitch settings correspond to this address. Enter an appropriate Modbus register address in the Start box. Repeat this step for each 5000 Series module.
If on-board modules are to be used, select ADD and enter the module which corresponds to the particular on-board module. Enter an appropriate Modbus register address in the Start box. Repeat this step for each on-board module.
The following example is a completed Register Assignment for a TeleSAFE Micro 16 controller with an on-board DIN 5203/4 digital inputs module and an AIN 5501 analog input module, addressed as 0.
3.8
Select Controller Serial Ports and modify the settings for com1, if applicable. The following example shows how com1 would be programmed to communicate via an external dial-up modem.
Controller serial port com2 is being used to write the ladder logic to the controller. It is recommended, therefore, that the settings for com2 not be modified at this time. Any changes to the com2 settings will disrupt the program download and cause a serial communication failure.
3.9
Program the ladder logic code for your application. Refer to the TelePACE Ladder Logic User Manual for more information.
3.10
Select Edit Monitor List and add the registers that are to be monitored to the Monitor Addresses list on the right side of the dialog. This is accomplished, by either selecting addresses from the Addresses in Use list, and then selecting the Addresses >> button, or by entering a range of consecutive registers into the First Register and Last Register boxes, and then selecting the Range>> button. A completed Monitor List may appear like this:
3.11
Select Communications Write to Controller and write the ladder logic to the controller by selecting Start from the dialog.
3.12
Select Activity Monitor Online and follow the screen prompts: To Log On to the Controller, select Start.
The following Monitor List will appear and display the registers that were added to the Monitor List in step 11.
