German-Australian Opera Grant

The German-Australian Opera Grant provides emerging Australian opera singers the opportunity to gain experience singing at the renowned Hessisches Staatstheater Wiesbaden in Germany. Up to 12 candidates will be selected for semi-finals with the top 4 advancing to the finals. The winner will receive a one-year employment contract at the opera house in Wiesbaden, one month of German language training, and one month of pre-employment experience. Cash prizes are also awarded to the top 4 placing singers. Applications for the 2013 grant are due by September 7th, 2012 and detailed rules can be found on the More Than Opera website.

More Than Opera (MTO) invites applications for the eleventh German-Australian Opera Grant sponsored by the GermanAustralian community and the Hessisches Staatstheater Wiesbaden.
Up to twelve candidates (6 male & 6 female voices) with opera stage experience will be selected for the Semi-Finals on 30 November 2012. On the same day four Finalists (2 male & 2 female) will be chosen to compete at the:

Opera Finale on 1st December 2012 BMW Edge, Federation Square Melbourne
The winner will be granted a twelve month employment contract (August 2013 July 2014) with the renowned Opera House in Wiesbaden/Germany plus one months German tuition at the Goethe Institut and one month work experience at the Hessisches Staatstheater Wiesbaden prior to August 2013. Applications close 7th September 2012.

1st Prize:
The grant includes a one (1) year employment (junior) contract with the HESSISCHES STAATSTHEATER WIESBADEN (August 2013 July 2014), one (1) month German language tuition at the Goethe Institut (July August 2013) and one (1) month work experience at the Opera House (June 2013) for an insight into procedures prior to the official start. An adequate amount of money will ensure that living costs are covered. The winner also receives a cash prize of $4000, which will help in the preparation stage for the time overseas. The grant will be given to an outstanding emerging Australian opera singer in the early stage of their professional life with operatic stage experience capable of meeting the high quality standards of this major German Opera House.

The value of this grant is approximately $ 65,000, this includes a return airfare to Germany.
The recipient must have previous operatic stage experience. It is necessary that the grant winner has a sound knowledge of German, or if not, is prepared to complete an intensive German language course well before departure. The grant incurs the obligation to perform at 2 events without remuneration: an operatic reception for Sponsors of the Grant before leaving for Germany and upon return an operatic reception or Master Class to provide feedback on the overseas experience.

The third prize winner will receive $2000

4th Prize:
The fourth prize winner will receive $1000
