KANATA NORTH NEWS Marianne Wilkinson Councillor, Kanata North PUBLIC MEETING, RICHARDSON LANDS SUBDIVISION

Mlacak Centre, Thursday Apr. 17, 7-9 pm A plan of subdivision has been submitted for the part of the former Richardson lands that lie within the urban area. These lands are located just to the north of Richardson Side Road from the intersection with Kanata Ave. to the future Terry Fox Drive. There are several barns and a stone house on the property. It is the developers intention to restore the stone house for a use as yet not determined. This development will connect to the Broughton lands presently undergoing development to the south. If you are interested in the future development of our community, I urge you to attend the meeting and provide your input into the planning process.

SPRING CLEANING THE CAPITAL

As the snow starts to melt, the need to clean up our streets and parks becomes very apparent. Please consider taking on a small part of our community and clearing it of any garbage. Register with the City at ottawa.ca to obtain cleaning materials and to be eligible for prizes. Those registering by Apr. 14 are eligible for Early Bird prizes. Projects can take place at any time up to May 15, 2008. On Apr. 26, which is Capital Cleanup Day, Ill take a group out to clean up a number of areas from 1 3 pm, starting from the Mlacak Centre. If youd like to join me please send me an email. This is our community and if we all pitch in we can keep it beautiful.

MANAGEMENT PLAN, SOUTH MARCH HIGHLANDS

The South March Highlands Conservation area is 1130 acres of municipally owned land within the larger South March Highlands forest and natural environment area. It is located immediately west of Morgans Grant and within the urban area as part of the 40% open space lands, which include Trillium Woods and the trails around the beaver pond in Kanata Lakes. This is one of the most ecologically significant and diverse areas in the City of Ottawa. It also provides opportunities for recreational use such as hiking, cross country skiing and mountain biking. Over the next few years, it will come under increased pressure as adjacent development continues and more people discover this unique natural area. To address this challenge, the City, in

partnership with the community, is preparing a management plan that will provide access to this unique area while protecting the natural features that make it special. To start the process, there will be a drop-in open house with City staff and the consulting team (Douglas and Ruhland Associates with Daniel Brunton Consulting) on Wednesday, Apr. 30, from 7 -9 p.m. at the Kanata Old Town Hall (March Rd. just north of Klondike Rd.). I would encourage you to drop in and learn more about the area and the management plan, as well as provide comments on what you value in the area directly to myself, staff and the consulting team. For more information contact my office or Mr. David Miller (580-2424, ext. 21447, [email protected])
