KANATA NORTH NEWS Marianne Wilkinson Councillor, Kanata North OTTAWA SENATORS

Congratulations to everyone involved with the Ottawa Senators on a great season and an incredible playoff run. Although we are all disappointed that they will not be going on to the next playoff level for a team that was in a rebuilding mode they surpassed what was expected in a big way. Having a team like the Senators here has created a fan base that shows that Ottawa is a hockey town and a place that residents are proud to call home. Now is the time to move to support another team for Ottawa. A team that will play in our excellent baseball stadium. Just as the NHL was urged to provide an NHL franchise for us by having the public purchase deposits that showed support in the community, today Champions for Ottawa Baseball are working to return minor-league baseball to Ottawa through similar, fully refundable pledges by individuals and corporations. These deposits are only $25 for an adult or $10 for a youth under 16 years of age. This does not commit you to buying a season ticket when the team returns and deposits are 100% refundable. The deadline is May 11th so please act now. For details go to www.champsottawabaseball.ca

1131 TERON ROAD

The City has just received the application for development at the north end of Teron Road. The submission has changed from the original concept proposed last year. This application includes a group of 6 town houses on the lot where the present house is located and a 10 to15 storey condominium building on the edge of the hydro easement containing 173 units. The rest of the hydro easement shows pathways, trails and landscaping. This is a very high density development. As soon as a public meeting is set for residents to view the proposal and provide their input Ill let you know. The documentation received should be on www.ottawa.ca/devapps (under Ward 4) sometime next week.

LOOKING AFTER OUR COMMUNITIES

Many residents of Kanata North benefit from homes backing onto parks and open space. These places are public lands and are not to be used for private use, although you can help maintain them and, with permission from the City, even plant trees or shrubs on the public lands. However, these are not dumps! If you have yard waste, including sod, tree pruning materials, leaves etc. they

can be put out each week on your waste pick up day and they will be used to make compost. Do not dump them, but recycle them. If you havent signed up for Cleaning the Capital please do so individually, as a street, school, church or community group and you will get supplies to use in clearing our communities of litter and graffiti. Just go to www.ottawa.ca/clean to register. Particular thanks to those who have adopted a park or road and do regular cleanups. Your efforts make a difference!

YOUNG AT ART
Drop by the Kanata Art Gallery to view the incredible art from local elementary and high school students. On display are works selected from applications submitted and they are great. Award will be presented on Sunday May 6th at 7:30 pm in the Mlacak Centre.

SIGN THE FLAG

I was pleased to be able to go to three Kanata North schools last week and have students from one class in each school sign the Olympic flag that will be presented to the Canadian Olympic team competing at the Olympics in London England this summer.
