Hexion Specialty Chemicals Given Top Honor at 15th Annual Supplier Day
Richard Morrison Applauds MFGs Suppliers for Outstanding Support and Product Quality
On August 23rd, the Molded Fiber Glass Companies hosted the 15th Supplier Recognition Day at the Madison Country Club in Madison, Ohio. Twenty-two supplier companies were recognized for their outstanding support to MFG, with Hexion Specialty Chemicals being honored as MFGs Supplier of the Year. Accepting the award for Hexions Epoxy and Phenolic Resins Division was Terry Loy, corporate account manager for composites. As MFGs principle contact for Hexion, Terry did an exemplary job of accessing his companys vast resources in support of MFGs specific process and technical requirements. As a supplier, Hexion brings specialized understanding of composites for wind energy that was a critical asset as MFG pressed ahead to expand and improve our composites manufacturing capabilities. Working with MFG purchasing teammates Tom Yeary at MFG Texas and Richard Frankhauser at MFG South Dakota, Hexion demonstrated world-class management of a global supply chain during a very challenging year for the epoxy industry. In an industrial environment plagued by supply challenges, Hexion delivered 100% of MFGs requirements on time insuring steady production throughout the year.

As part of the ongoing effort to reduce paper consumption and waste and at the same time increase the audience for Composites Age, MFG has created an online electronic version of the newsletter. MFG Tray Company Welcomes Linda Noles to the Sales Team


John Thompson, General Manager of MFG Tray Company, proudly announced the promotion of teammate Linda Noles to the position of Food Service product line manager. Linda brings rich knowledge of MFG Tray Companys products, production and process methods, having served the last 3 years in the companys manufacturing operation. She is excited about her new position and we look forward to watching the progress that she and her teammates make with the product line. Linda is a native of Conneaut, Ohio, where she lives with her husband Andrew and son Tyler. Chips Boosts Support for MFG Wind Energy Business


To support the growth of MFGs wind energy business, Dan Chips has joined the company in the new position of corporate director of wind energy engineering, reporting to Carl LaFrance, MFGs wind energy champion. Dan comes to MFG from the marine craft industry and brings deep experience in engineering, facility and manufacturing management. During his 13 years with the composite boat builder he had responsibility for a number of their production facilities in the Southeast. Dan describes his mission at MFG as providing corporate-level support to the various entities that produce wind energy products. He will be the primary customer point of contact for engineering issues, complimenting Carl LaFrances role for commercial issues.

Stebnisky and MFG Water Treatment LEEDing the Way
In late 2009 teammate Chris Stebnisky at MFG Water Treatment Products became the first LEED Green Associate for MFG. The end-point of attaining this certification was passing a rigorous exam of 200 intensive questions with a score of 170 or better. But a lot of concentrated effort was involved along the way establishing professional eligibility, classroom time in Philadelphia, and months of intense independent study. The LEED Green Building rating system is the internationally accepted benchmark for the design, construction and operation of green buildings. There are different levels of certification LEED Certified, Silver, Gold and Platinum. The level of certification is determined by a point system that ranks the environmental impact of various things such as energy efficiency, material composition, material use and waste, etc. It is now common practice for conscientious developers, building owners and government agencies to require construction companies to design to this standard in order to compete for their projects. How can specifying MFG Water Treatment Products help builders toward LEED certification? According to Chris Stebnisky, If you are designing to achieve LEED credits on a building project, it is important to understand the sections, credits and products that are impacted by materials choices. Specifying fiber glass reinforced plastic (FRP) materials can help you to qualify for credits within the LEED rating system. With the knowledge that we have about how our products contribute to reducing environmental impacts, we can help customers at the design stage of their projects. These are a few ways that MFG Water Treatment Products help earn points: Reduced lifecycle maintenance and repair costs because it is longer lasting and renewable materials require fewer resources for replacement. Unique manufacturing process allows for factory-applied color and delivers a quality finish virtually eliminating the VOCs that occur during painting. Low thermal conductivity of FRP reduces energy consumption for heating and cooling when used in Chris Stebnisky at MFG Water building structures. Treatment Products became the Lighter weight than many alternative materials, FRP reduces the impact of transporting the product to the site.

FRP products can be custom designed for exact fit, reducing fabrication, handling and waste at the site. As part of our sales growth strategy, it was our intention to have a LEED-certified teammate at WTP to aid customers in the design phases of their projects, said Dennis Vorse, general manager of MFG Water Treatment Products. Plenty to Smile About in Alabama
On September 3, MFG Alabama had a companywide luncheon to celebrate milestones of many kinds: shipments, safety and teammate service. This month also marked the 5-year anniversary of the Opp, AL plant opening.
Congratulations to MFG Alabama for shipment of the 3000th nacelle. Shown here is the General Manager Mike Leonard congratulated and thanked the entire company for the successful shipment milestone 1.5Mw nacelle and MFG teammates that made it happen. of the 3000th wind turbine nacelle, and for achieving a record 400+ days without a recordable accident.

New Markets
MFG Now Producing Safety Tiles for Public Walkways
Over the summer MFG Composite Systems Company revved up production of a new product AlertTile. These tiles are red, yellow, black and grey colored composite panels with pronounced raised texture (truncated domes) that provide a safety measure in public spaces for citizens with vision disability. The current line of AlertTiles are constructed of a specially formulated, UV resistant SMC material that was custom developed by Kurt Butler and iCom team for this application. Alec Raffa, MFG Sales Director and team led the successful sales effort to win this new business.
AlertTile detectable warnings solutions are engineered for new construction and retrofits for compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act. These are now being produced by MFG Composite Systems Company in Ashtabula, OH.
