GENERAL INFORMATION

DESCRIPTIONS

2.1 Asset This is the object created from the file and doesnt exist physically. It is a virtual object. Different assets can be created from one file. It is the object which is created in Metus Library software by adding any media object (video file, audio file, picture file, documents, tape cassettes, books, etc.) and attributes such as metadata, category, proxy, storyboard related to this object. Its appearance in Metus Library software is such in figure. You can play video files on asset. You can create multiple asset versions from one file.
Icons on Asset; S defines if asset has a storyboard or not. When the letter S is bold, it means that asset has a storyboard. P defines if asset has a proxy or not. When the letter P is bold, it means that asset has a low-res proxy. I defines if the asset is indexed or not. When the letter I is bold, it means that file is indexed. C defines if the asset is a clip or not. Clip means asset refers to a portion of a file, not the whole file. V defines if the asset has previous versions or not. Green area indicates availability status of an asset. o o Green color indicates that asset is online. That is, asset is on an available disk. Light green color indicates that asset is near line. That is, asset is on a tape but that tape is in the tape driver. So, whenever a user wants to use it Metus will get it from tape automatically. Yellow color indicates that asset is offline. That is, asset is on a tape but tape is not in the driver of tape library. So, whenever a user wants to use it Metus will inform the user that asset is on a tape with specified ID and name and want user to put that tape into the tape driver.

Time code on thumbnail image shows the duration of video.

Red and gray bar next to time code shows this assets duration comparing to the longest asset on project. That is, the gray bar shows the longest asset duration where the red bar show current assets duration. The MPG icon shows format of video. Shield icon indicates that this asset is protected by a user and therefore cannot be deleted.

You can set any storyboard frame as assets thumbnail.

2.2. Proxy It is a lower resolution copy of a file that can be created by Metus Process Server in any format and requires less storage space. It consumes less bandwidth than high resolution file. In cases when high resolution files are on tapes or users are not allowed to view high resolution files, proxy files can be used instead. If proxy file exists for an asset then the P icon on asset thumbnail appears. 2.3. Storyboard Storyboard is the certain stored frames of a movie as pictures. User can get a previous knowledge of the video by these pictures without viewing the video. This can be considered the summary of video consist of pictures. Specified frame can be recreated each time depending to time range and scene changes. If storyboard pictures of an asset exist then S icon on asset thumbnail appears. 2.4. Index Index is perceptual metadata of assets created and saved in database from frames for image comparing and matching purposes. Index creation is done by Metus Process Server. If assets are indexed then Metus Image Retrieval Server can compare and match a given picture and list the best matched asset. If an asset is indexed then I icon on asset thumbnail appears. 2.5. Clip
Clip means a certain asset refers to a portion of a file, not the whole file. A file may be 30 minutes in duration but the asset may refer to only 10 minutes (from 10 minutes to 20 minutes) of the file. Users other than administrators will be able to view only 10 minutes portion of the file. If an asset is a clip asset then C icon on asset thumbnail appears.

2.5. Versioning

Versioning property indicates that certain changes such as metadata changes, file source changes, or asset changes have been done. It is possible to view all changes and revert back to a specific version. If an asset has some versions then V icon on asset thumbnail appears.

2.6. Project There are two different projects on Metus Library; Library and Archive. The physical locations of files dont change in Library project. Only their assets are created for adding metadata and categories. Metus keeps only a reference to physical file. Things are different in Archive project than in Library project. Files that desired to be archived are archived in tape units or other storage units in specified fixed locations according to Metus Archive Server (MAS) rules (Administrator decides which disk or tape units
are used for archiving. Then, MAS archives in selected disks and tape units according the decision using the archiving dates or file dates). According to working-flow model, the correct project

must be selected in initial phase. A project consists of asset information stored in database and physical files stored in central storages. It is possible to work with single or multiple projects in Metus Library. 2.7. Bin This is the object which contains other bins and assets. Bin can be considered as a virtual folder. Windows operating system-style folder logic is adopted. Other sub bins can be created in each bin. 2.8. Dynamic Bin This is a bin type that monitors a folder on network and automatically creates the files added to that folder as assets in it. From properties menu, a folder path is given to that bin. Then files added to folder are added to project automatically. It is always synchronized with folder. 2.9. Filter Bin It works as a searching criterion. For example if a Size>100 MB criterion is added and this bin is opened, all assets of which size is over 100 MB are listed. User cannot add asset to this bin. A number of filter bin are added to project as default. These are bins of Added this week, Unmodified Asset, Large Assets, Most Viewed, More Retrieved Assets and Long Assets. Users can create filter bins according to their needs. Filter bins are appropriate for automation of most used searching criterion.

2.10. Template Bin This bin contains the user templates. User can add templates to only this bin. In a project only one template bin can exist. You can add a template in template bin, and you can enter various metadata into this template. And then on all assets, these metadata fields and information that will be added to that project will be automatically displayed. If you dont want this feature you can disable it from Others in Properties tab of Project menu. 2.11. Synchronized Bin

This bin type ensures bin contents of project working on different locations to be synchronized. With settings made within the bin properties, each of original media, proxy media, storyboard information and metadata info those in the source bin on remote location can be synchronized with target bin wholly or separately. 2.12. Recycle Bin This is the bin to which all deleted assets are transferred in Metus Library. Deleted files are moved to Recycle Bin before totally deleted. The physical file in the archive is deleted only when it is deleted from Recycle Bin. The deleting option is not effective on file with source in Library project and asset is sent to recycle bin. When asset is deleted from recycle bin, physical file is deleted too. 2.13. Fields Field is the name of the region that for holding metadata of assets in Metus Library. In Metus Library, each project has its metadata fields. Fields can be defined on basis of File, Bin, and Asset. Fields feature multiple languages. These are depending on language in which project is created. 2.12. Metadata This is the data which defines the objects (asset, bin etc.) in projects, ensures them to be managed and includes their characteristics. It is possible to define metadata and to input data as much as required in Metus Library. And later any of these data can be used as search criterion. There are factory default metadata fields provided with the first setup of software defined by system as well as the ones those can be defined by user as required. 2.13. Project Explorer Window Bin existing in project are listed in this window. Project Explorer window comes open as default when a project is opened. If it is not opened, you can make it visible by clicking Project Explorer option from View menu. In Project Explorer window, all objects are

displayed in tree view. Only Bins can be showed in this window. Assets in them will be showed in the main area.

2.14. Start Page Names of the last opened projects, their creating dates and number of connected users are shown in this list. Library projects are shown as blue and Archive projects are shown as red in project list. In this screen, the first display when opening the software, you can select the project in which you want to work or you can create a new one. During the work, you can access this page by selecting Start Page from View menu. 2.15. Folder Browser Window Folder Browser is like classic Windows browser. This window lists any video, audio, picture and document files those have extensions defined in project in computer or network other then those in Metus Library. Folder Browser opens automatically as project opens. If it is not, you can make it visible by clicking Folder Browser option from View menu. Files contained in selected folder or drivers are listed. System driver is not displayed in Folder Browser as default. To display the system driver, click Options from Tools menu. Choose the Working Field from left. Check the box next to view system driver option in Folder Browser and then click OK. In order to hide system driver, you have to uncheck this box. 2.16. Category Window You can assign a category for each asset. As understood from its name, it is a structure prepared for categorizing assets those has common properties. As in same metadata fields, users can define categories in addition to standard categories defined by the system, and each of these categories can be used as search criterion later. 2.17. Search Window In this window, it is possible to search in accordance with criterion specified within the assets of which metadata were assigned. There are four kind of search options; Simple, Advanced, Category and Image. 2.18. Metadata Window In this window, all metadata input operation is done. It can be customized according to user needs.

2.19. Preview Window You can preview the selected asset in this window. It enables you to view listed asset, without opening it in asset viewer. 2.19. Play on Item

In thumbnail mode, a video asset can be viewed by double clicking that assets icon.
2.20. Messaging Window Metus Library enables messaging between users currently online in network. For this, MAS service must be installed on server and Messaging Server must be selected from Metus Librarys project properties. The window can be activated by choosing Messaging Window from View menu. 2.21. Playlist Editor In Playlist editor, a Playlist can be created in order to prepare assets in archive for a TV broadcast (for video server). Also a Playlist can be created by using assets and supported event contained in archive in Playlist organizer. You can export this Playlist and files contained in list to broadcast server. 2.22. Progress Status This window shows progress and completion status of processes such as archiving, deleting, trimming and creating proxy executed or queued by system. Progress status window shows detail information about ongoing jobs. 2.23. Users and Groups In Metus Library, project administrator can create users and groups, and give them rights for reading, deleting, adding, editing and requesting in project. If there is a domain structure, users can also be transferred to project from Active Directory too. Security is furnished in accordance with the rights granted to users and groups. This window is accessed by selecting Users and Groups from Project menu. There is a hierarchic security structure in Metus Library. 2.24. Supported Files This screen displays the supported file formats by Metus Library software in the basis of

video, audio, picture, documents and wrapper. It is accessed by selecting Supported Files from Project menu. 2.25. Action History It is an analyzing tool enabling the processing in Metus Library in the basis of criterion such as date, user name and description etc. It is accessed by selecting Action History from Project menu. Action history is a detail log of all processes done in Metus Library. 2.26. Task Management
Some tasks can be created and these tasks can be assigned to users in Metus Library software. All these settings are in Task Management window which is accessed from Project menu. You can assign various tasks to users created in a project and than you can monitor the completion status of these tasks. This window is only accessible for users having administrator privileges.

2.27. Requests In Metus Library, users can only perform the processes within their privileges. For a process they dont have permission, they can request these kinds of processes from system administrator if they have right to request. 2.28. Project Summary A projects manager, type, name, its location on hard disk and project statistics are shown in that screen. This is accessed from Project menu.
