Moment caught by a fisherman in 1952

"Strange", the old fisherman said to himself. For generations seamen of The Baltic Sea had been accustomed to The Wheels of The Sea. But they rarely spoke about them. Or maybe was it that the northern seamen just didn't speak much in general. The Wheels where usually seen out at sea. Not often by the coast line. They could pop out of the ocean or surf the sky. In a way The Wheels were appreciated as friendly sea inhabitants who sometimes observed fishermen but more often went about their own business. Never before had Roland seen one travelling this fast. And never before had one left a trace of fire behind it. Roland put down his net and sucked his pipe. Watching as the wheel disappeared by the horizon to the northeast. He barely felt it but shortly after there was a deep crumbling beneath him in the sea. And as the crumbling faded he could make out a couple of jet fighters coming from the south. Far out, but the sound was unmistakable. They made a long turn and went back south again. "Now they really messed things up", he said to himself and continued mending his net.

Red Alert
The whole Baltic Line of Defense had immediately gone to red alert when radar screens from Latvia, Lithuania and Estonia detected a fast moving flying object. It could be a new kind of missile and it seemed to originate in the vicinity of the American ships. These radar reports were soon confirmed by eye witness reports. The most trustworthy ones came from navy personnel whom were on a mission to observe what kind of game the large-scale NATO navy exercise were playing. Comrade Admiral Borisov was not pleased with his western colleagues turning his turf into a playground. He had been fighting the Nazis back in the 40s and was until now hoping for a calm stretch towards his retirement. What is Moscows response?, he asked. He could hear commotion in the other end of the line. If the flying object breaks our sovereign air space, Admiral, you are ordered to strike against the hostile fleet. Is that understood Comrade Admiral?, a voice asked. Yes, said Borisov and hung up. With 25 minutes of red alert he now commanded a force that would utterly destroy the fleet participating in the exercise. I hope the damn thing ends up in international waters and stay there. At least until Im retired, Borisov said and lit a cigarette.

Stiff breeze
It disappeared, Sir, one of the pilots reported in. What do you mean disappeared? Did it crash?, Captain Bowman shouted. The radioman forwarded the question. Can you confirm that the object was on fire? Can you confirm that it went down?, Bowman asked. Yes and no, Sir, the pilot said, It looked like some kind of fire and the objects last known trajectory wouldnt have kept it up for long at that speed. But its impossible to confirm, Sir Well continue at the debriefing after landing. Over and out, Bowman said. The Admiral was busy communicating with The Pentagon and The White House. The Soviets would not be happy and relations were tense as they were even without these cursed flying saucers. Operation Mainbrace had started off in excellent fashion. It was time to draw some lines to keep the Soviet Union from expanding westwards. And it was to be done with a magnificent fleet of over 200 ships, with ten aircraft carriers and two battleships in the lead. But for every implausible sighting of flying saucers leaping in and out of the ocean, the focus and morale of the men participating in the exercise had started to shift. Had they encountered some kind of communist super weapon? The discs seemed to observe and follow them around, which eventually gave even The High Command bad nerves. To boost morale they sent up fighters to check these saucers. It had been done on several occasions but every time the flying objects magically disappeared. Captain Bowman stepped outside. He stood there, on deck of the carrier he commanded, watching the sunset. It was a cool autumn day and the breeze was stiff. I wonder which would be worst, he thought out loud, A Soviet super weapon or an alien spaceship?

Riddles
Deep down on the ocean floor A riddle rests upon a height The discovery makes feelings roar A few men struggles to shed a light Seeking the truth Indeed a bold quest By a species of youth Will they stand the test? Patience and a clear mind is key When trying to set the truth free The murky waters of The Baltic Sea Holds many questions for thee
