Billing System

This document provides an introduction and background on computerizing a water billing system. It discusses how computerization can reduce errors, speed up processing times, boost productivity, and produce higher quality products compared to a manual system. Computerization integrates different but interdependent transactions into a faster and more accurate system. For a complex water billing system with large volumes of data, computerization is recommended to overcome defects in a manual system and provide fast, controlled processing that enables better decision making by tailoring output formats for quick information retrieval.

CHAPTER I BACKGROUND OF STUDY AND ITS SETTING

1.1 Introduction Computers are widely used in day to day activities. Computerization is a control system that manages processes in industrialworkplace. It reduced human errors and processing time, thus it can boost productivity andresulted into high quality of product produce. In Information System, computerization isconcerned about interrelating different but interdependent transactions. This can result ina system with well-integrated processes that can perform much faster and more accurate than a manual system. For a water billing system, which is complex, repetitive, and has voluminous data, computerization is recommended. Computerization overcomes many of the defects in the manual system, is fast and gives control on the system. Computerization helps in decision making. The output formats can be tailored to suit quick retrieval of information that is necessary for decision making. Utility companies face the challenge of maintaining aging water systems while collecting payments from customers for water usage and services rendered. As service districts have grown in size and complexity simple computer systems have become outdated and difficult to use. Water agreements between districts have become a common practice and require tracking to ensure accuracy. Employee information must be secured, but accessible for time and attendance as well as payroll, benefits, and work completed. Water billing software has evolved from separate systems that tracked internal activities independently from customer information into the most advanced software systems that will track employee, business, and customer information in one database.
