Lightning Protection

This document provides calculations to evaluate the need for lightning protection on buildings. It calculates the collection area of different building structures using formulas. It then determines the flash density and risk of being struck based on location. Weighting factors are applied for building use, contents, construction, isolation and country. The overall risk factor is calculated and compared to thresholds to determine if protection is recommended. For the sample building, protection is recommended due to its risk factor being between the thresholds that require protection.
