Activity 7: Looking Back at Your Preliminary Task, Do You Feel You Have Learned in The Progression To You Your Final Product?
final product?
Through filming parts of the preliminary task I learned different camera angles/shots including: close ups, low shot, medium shot ect, also different camera transitions like match on action, point of view, ect. When I first started filming the preliminary I found it very hard to use the camera as it was my first time, but this helped prepare me for filming the main productions, and took the skills I learnt from filming the preliminary into consideration when filming the main product. While filming the preliminary we had to make sure the camera was focused and we reshot the footage many times until we got it right, this helped to boost our confidence with using the camera. Also we had to make sure we didnt break the 180 degree rule, the 180 degree rule is the rule that states that the camera should remain on the dame side as the imaginary line, and the line is drawn perpendicular to the cameras viewpoint in the establishing shot of the scene. The rule enforces continuity of the film. The rule should never be broken, only defence for breaking it is for an effect, breaking the rule would confuse the audience, and this would be bad as we want the audience to understand and relate to the production. I ensured the camera stayed on one side of the line. After filming our preliminary we had to focus on our 2 minute sequence. We chose to do a horror, when we were planning we made a few brainstorms and story boards to give us an idea of storylines. We had to be organised as the coursework load was a lot, to be honest we got off to a bad start and wasted a few weeks which I feel had an impact on our final piece, we struggled with filming so had to re do many scenes which hindered us getting round to editing and sound, but soon after we sorted things and got everything done. I used most of the shots that I learned when filming the preliminary task in the filming of our main production, this helped to boost my confidence when using the camera, I felt comfortable trying different angles, but my hand wasnt very steady holding the camera by hand, so I used the tripod a lot and rotated it when tracking an actor/actress, therefore the camera was secure and steady and the footage looked much more professional. I also learnt how to set up the camera, adjust the tripod, check the microphone/ earpiece and also putting the actual camera on top of the tripod and making sure it didnt topple over and making sure the camera was levelled. After filming our editor (Sunraj Bolina) had to go over the footage I filmed and edit it and add sound/ music, I had to make sure that before I cut after filming I left at least 5 seconds to make it easier for Sunraj when he had to edit. And using a variety of shots gave Sunraj an advantage as he had more to work from and choose from.
