The Ingredients Use On Front Cover: (UNIT 50 LO1) Task 1 Class
The Masthead makes the magazine a recognizable brand. This title can be reproduced on different products it offers. It gives an indication of the genre as well. Every Mixmag magazine will have the same style of text and a similar layout. Mixmag can change the colours of the text to fit the theme of the issue. In my magazine cover, the masthead is white and placed on a blue background. This to make it easier to read and makes it stand out. The masthead will be the same on every different issue of Mixmag. The main image overlaps the masthead because the masthead is well known and people already know what it looks like.
Dateline The dateline tells the date and the year the issue was released. It is important so people can keep the magazine if its a special issue. This is called convention. Also if you have subscribed to the magazine and you missed one you can order it. The Dateline is at the bottom of the cover, next to the barcode. This is because if someone wants to order a particular issue then the information they need are together
Main image
The main image is the biggest image on the front cover. This image is appropriate to the issue because it is a holiday image. The main image sends out a message to the audience. This particular image overlaps the cover line. Usually the main image will have a cover star who is a musician or has something to do with the music industry but as this is a special Ibiza issue, a model is used instead. The model is usually some one very attractive in order to appeal to people.
Model credit
The model credit is who took the cover image and the models name and things like that. This is there because the photographer need credit in order to get paid and recognized for the shoot. Sometimes the model will be a complete unknown (Like on the Ibiza 2008 issue). This is because the model will be a complete unknown and its easier to not give the model credit.
Coverlines Coverlines are the little subheadings on the cover, which tell the reader, whats inside the magazine. These are often coloured in a themed way. On this Ibiza issue, most of the coverlines have something to do with Ibiza, expect for three on the other side. It also has some artists that are featured in the issue. The coverlines are all yellow and purple in order to fit in with the issues them.
The main coverline is the main story of he issue. Its the biggest coverline on the cover. It overlaps most of the main image. The main coverline in this issue is the budget Ibiza holiday story. It is big and yellow and stands out in the middle of the page.
Left third
The left third is space on the cover that is left for the coverlines. This also includes the gaps in between the coverlines. On this cover, the coverlines are quite close together and have little gaps between them.
Bar code
The barcode is usually placed on the bottom right of the magazine. It is used so it can be scanned and purchased. The price of the image is usually placed by the barcode. On this issue its placed in the bottom right.
Selling line
The selling line is the main motto of the magazine, which is almost always put above the masthead. It is used to attract people to the magazine. On mixmag magazines, the selling line is: The Worlds Biggest Dance Music And Clubbing Magazine.
