But on what architectural level is it that these estates seem to fail?

The Pruitt-Igoe houses illustrated a clear segregation that was present in society at the time. The Igoe apartments were designated to White Americans and the Pruitt to Black Americans. Spaces were of an impersonal scale, hence nobody felt ownership and consequently they fell into disrepair. Residents no longer felt like humans, rather they were Pruitt-Igoes
