MARKET ANALYSIS:
Key benchmark indices edged higher in choppy trading session. Index heavyweight and cigarette maker ITC edged lower. Another index heavyweight Reliance Industries (RIL) edged higher in choppy trade. The barometer index, the S&P BSE Sensex, was provisionally up 8.53 points or 0.05% off about 115 points from the day's high and up close to 30 points from the day's low. The market breadth was strong. Realty stocks jumped. Capital goods stocks rose on renewed buying. Except the BSE Metal index, the BSE FMCG index and the BSE Auto index, all the other sectoral indices on BSE were in the green. Indian stocks gained for the third straight trading session today, 1 April 2013. The market edged higher in early trade. The Sensex pared after hitting fresh intraday high in morning trade. The market retained positive zone in mid-morning trade. Key benchmark indices pared intraday gains to hit fresh intraday low in early afternoon trade. Key benchmark slipped into the red in afternoon trade. The Sensex regained positive terrain in mid-afternoon trade. The CNX Nifty was up 17.20 points or 0.3% to 5,699.75, as per provisional figures. The index hit a high of 5,720.95 in intraday trade, its highest level since 21 March 2013. The index hit a low of 5,675.90 in intraday trade. S&P BSE Sensex was up 8.53 points or 0.05% to 18,844.30. The index jumped 123.77 points at the day's high of 18,959.48 in morning trade, its highest level since 21 March 2013. The index fell 23.89 points at the day's low of 18,796.60 in afternoon trade.
