Thesis (Central idea): While sushi is originally a Japanese dish, it is widely popular in the US and the American version of sushi is very different from the authentic . III. Reason audience should listen: People love eating sushi but they might not know that the sushi they are eating buying from Kroger or being prepared at sushi nara is the Americanized version of sushi so having a speech comparing the sushi in America and Japan would be beneficial to audience. IV. Credibility: Statistics, reference to scholar and academic sources. V. Preview (Main idea of each body point): Sushi has experienced a surge in international popularity in recent decades, yet the version of sushi that we know today in the U.S. is greatly different from its original version in term of ingredients, variety and freshness. I. 1st Main Point: While sushi was first thought to be unpalatable due to its tradition of using raw fish at first, Sushi has since exploded in popularity and become American symbol of sophistication, health-consciousness, and trendiness. A. Supporting material: Sushi came into the public eye in the 1970s, during the
rise of Japan as a global economic power. B. Supporting material: Many Japanese chefs were coming to America, making Japanese cuisine more available to Japanese expatriate businessmen and their American colleagues (cite the statistic about the fast growing of the number of sushi restaurant over time) C. Supporting material: Celebrities and other high-profile personalities declared their love for sushi and raved about its low-fat and high nutritional virtues eating sushi became fashionable and cosmopolitan. Transition Sentence: Now, I will talk about how sushi consumed in America is different from in Japan. II. 2nd Main Point: As might be expected, sushi in America is termed American sushi because it has been significantly altered from its Japanese roots. A. Supporting material: Ingredients: American sushi avoids some of the more exotic ingredients found in Japan and has added a few of its own local ingredients, including avocado, soft-shell crab, cucumber, and even cream cheese. B. Supporting material: Varieties: Some classic U.S. choices that were invented in America to market to Americans such as: California rolls, Caterpillar rolls, Dragon Rolls, and Rainbow rolls. These rolled sushi known as maki is actually an uncommon style of sushi in Japan. C. Supporting material: Freshness: The freshness of the seafood is a must for sushi in Japan while in American, you cant expect the same level of freshness if you buy a prepackage from a grocery store.

I. Summary: The phenonmenon of sushi is an example of global cultural hybridization when a dish becomes popular worldwide and transform itself everywhere it goes to suit the taste of the local people, whish in this case is Americans. Creative closing thought/memorable conclusion: If you have a chance, come to Japan and experience the authentic sushi. I guarantee you would experience a totally different dish!
