Table A-2-Universal Gas Constant For Different Units

The universal gas constant, R, is given for various combinations of pressure, energy, volume, temperature, and mass units. In customary units, R is equal to 10.73146 psia ft3/°R lbm mol. For SI units, R is equal to 8.3143 kPa m3/K kmol. The gas constant can also be expressed in terms of energy units, such as 8.3143 J/mol K, and the conversion between unit systems is given by the relation R = 8.3143 (Eunit/Tunit/munit).

The gas constant can also be expressed in terms of energy units (e.g., R+8.3143 J/mol@K); note that J+N@m+(N/m2) m3+Pa@m3. In this case, the conversion from one unit system to another is given by R + 8.3143
