India is a spiritual hub with thousands of pilgrims visiting religious sites annually. Some of the most important pilgrimage destinations in India include Badrinath, located in the Himalayas at 3,133 meters and dedicated to Shri Badrinathji; Kedarnath, one of the 12 Jyotirlingams at 3,584 meters; and Yamnotri in the Garhwal Himalayas known from Hindu mythology. Other significant sites are Gangotri, Haridwar on the Ganges river, Rishikesh known for its yoga centers, and Mathura and Vrindavan which are important places for Krishna worship.

Pilgrimage Destinations of India


India – The land of Gods and Goddess, is a spiritual and religious hub. Thousands of
pilgrims visit these religious spots to have a transcdental experience. It is the meeting
place of the divine power and the human.

Badrinath :
Badrinath is a revered destination of India. Situated at an altitude of 3,133 mts, Badrinath
is famous pilgrimage spot in India. The temple is believed to be constructed by Adi Guru
Shankaracharya and it is dedicated to Shri Badrinathji.

Kedarnath :
It is one of the holiest pilgrimage destination in India. Located at an altitude of 3,584 m,
Kedarnath houses one of the 12 holy Jyotirlingams. This is one of the Char Dhams of
Hindu pilgrim and is the holiest of all. It falls in the state of Uttarakhand.

Yamnotri:
Falls in the westernmost shrines in the Garhwal Himalayas and it is perched on the atop a
flank of BandarPoonch peak. Yamnotri finds a special mention in Hindu Mythology.
Some of the major travel attractions of Yamnotri are Surya Kund, Divya Shila,
Hanumanchatti and Sayanachatti.

Gangotri
It is one of the four main religious places in India. Nestled at an altitude of 3042m,
Gangotri is a pilgrimage site which is located in the northern state of Uttarakhand.
Gaumukh glacier, Nandanvan are the famous tourist site of Gangotri.

Haridwar
According to Hindu Mythology, Haridwar is one of the seven holiest places of India.
Located on the banks of river Ganga, Hardiwar attracts hoards of pilgrims every year.
Haridwar is famous for Kumbh and Ardh Kumbh Mela.

Rishikesh
As a religious destination, Rishikesh in Uttaranchal is a popular and ideal destination of
Uttarakhand. Also known as the place of Sages, Rishikesh is famous for housing the
famous Ayurveda Resort – Ananda.

Mathura and Vrindavan


Situated in twin sacred town of Uttar Pradesh, Mathura and Vrindavan are amongst the
holiest places of India. Madan Mohan Temple, Banke Bihari Temple, Shahji Temple are
the famous travel attractions of these twin cities.

Vaishno Devi
It is one of the most saught destination in India and amongst the most revered. Almost all
Hindus based in Northern India, would take Vaishno Devi Yatra once in lifetime. The
famous Vaishno Devi Temple is located 13 kms from Katra.

Tirupti Balaji Temple


Dedicated to Shri Venkateshwara, Tirupati Balaji Temple is located on the seventh peak
of the hill top - Tirupati Hill. It is the Worlds richest temple and is popularly known as the
Balaji Temple. The Temple is situated 10 kms away from the city centre to Tirupati.

Mahabalipuram
Named as UNESCO World Heritage Site, Mahabalipuram is a historic and a famous
World Heritage Site in India. Shore temple is the famous travel attractions of
Mahabalipuram.

Kanchipuram
It is one of the sacred destination of South India. It is a famous Hindu temple and a
historical capital of South India. The city of Thousand Temples, Kanchipuram in South
India comes out as the best pilgrimage destination in India.

Rameshwaram
One of the 12 Jyotirlingas of India, Rameshwaram is situated at 154 kms away from
Madurai. It is a religious hub dedicated to Lord Rama.

Bhubhneshwar
Falling in the Eastern part of India, Bhubhneshwar is a sacred site of East. There were
more than 2000 Orissan style temples, Bhubhneshwar was established in 1946.
