GO SENS GO!

What a time for our Senators as they defeated the Canadiens during the first round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs. Our team has pulled the City together with their determination and refusal to give up. Despite many injuries, and revitalized by young players from the Binghamton Senators farm team, the Pesky Sens scrapped into the playoffs and then knocked off Montreal in 4 games out of 5 to move into the second round. Bob and I have had season tickets from their first season when they played at the Civic Centre and now share a half season with our son so I was there May 7th when losing 2-0 midway through the third period they tied the game & then pulled out a victory! Those Pesky Sens showed they dont know how to give up! Despite the odds, they succeeded.

BUILDING A LIVEABLE OTTAWA

The review of the Citys Official Plan, called Building a Liveable Ottawa, is entering the next stage. Until June 7, you can comment on pedestrian and cycling networks by going to www.ottawa.ca/liveableottawa and clicking on Pedestrian and Cycling for an interactive map. For example, I picked the missing sidewalk link from March Road to Sandhill as a sidewalk need on the pedestrian map. For Transit and Roads, the text indicates that the 2008 plan is being used as neither growth forecasts nor the urban boundary have changed. This is despite the fact that only last August the Ontario Municipal Board added additional land to the urban boundary, including sizeable areas adjacent to Kanata North. The website indicates minor changes only. The only decision will be on timing of projects. A transit system towards Kanata from Lincoln Fields is not included until much later so that going west will be the only area inside the Greenbelt where buses are on mixed traffic on the Queensway. When the light rail is built to Baseline, Kanata riders will take those buses to Lincoln Fields and then try to get onto an already full train. Ive suggested that rather than build the future bus rapid transit to Bayshore, a light rail branch should be constructed. I will be discussing this at my next Town Hall meeting on May 27 at 7 p.m. in the Mlacak Centre.

FUNDRAISING FOR OUR RECREATION CENTRE

To include items not funded by the City (e.g. 8 lane pool instead of 6) fundraising is needed with $850,000 required this year. Ive been working with volunteers and much has been accomplished but more is needed. You can help by paying $20 for one of the time capsules that will be buried in the floor of our new facility for 50 years or by donating $500 (tax receiptable) for one of the entrance pavers which will include your family name(s). Go to www.richcraftcomplex.ca for details.
