AP Calculus AB 2013 Summer Packet

This document contains a summer worksheet for AP Calculus students. It includes instructions to graph various functions using a graphing calculator over the summer break to gain familiarity with the tool. Students are asked to graph parent functions and related transformations, find roots of functions, sketch graphs, solve inequalities, find intersection points of graphs, and analyze the properties of functions. The goal is to spend class time on Calculus concepts rather than learning to use the calculator.

AP CALCULUS SUMMER WORKSHEET

DUE: First day of school. This assignment is to be done at your leisure during the summer. It is designed to help you become comfortable with your graphing calculator. You will need to read the manual to understand how your calculator works. It is important that you gain these skills over the summer so that we can spend our time talking about calculus rather than how to use the calculator. Graph the parent function of each set using your calculator. Draw a quick sketch on your paper of each additional equation in the family. Check your sketch with the graphing calculator. 1) a) c) e) g) I) k) Parent Function: y = x2 - 5 y = (x-10)2 y = 4x2 y = -x2 y = (x+4)2 - 8 y = a(x-6)2 - 6 y = x2 b) d) f) h) j) l) y = x2 + 3 y = (x+8)2 y = 0.25x2 y = -(x+3)2 + 6 y = -2(x+1)2 + 4 y = -3(x+2)2 - 2
