Lesson Plan Daily

The daily lesson plan is for a sexual education class discussing prom night and safe sex. It includes three activities: 1) Students will take an online quiz about peer pressure and sexual situations and discuss their responses. 2) Students will work in teams in a relay race to correctly answer true/false questions about condoms and put a condom on a banana. 3) The class will discuss new contraceptive laws and ways for couples to practice safe sex or abstinence. The goal is for students to think critically about influences on their health decisions and how to make responsible choices regarding sexual behavior.

Age/Grade Level:

Introduction: Previous knowledge is based on the social cues from our society rather than facts based from any previous education classes that are not provided within our school. Overview contains basic knowledge containing peer pressures involving sex, prom, practicing safe sex, and how to handle situations in which there is a sexual encounter.

Objectives: (2) Students will analyze the influence of family, peers, culture, media, technology, and other factors on health behaviors. predicting how decisions regarding health behaviors have consequences for self and others (5) explaining how body system functions can be maintained and improved (e.g., exercise, nutrition, safety) (7) explaining how decision-making relates to responsible sexual behavior (e.g., abstinence, preventing pregnancy, preventing HIV/STDs), impacts physical, mental and social well-being of an individual (5) Resources: http://www.stayteen.org/quiz Ability to use power point presentation, board, set up to show quiz to entire class Computer Internet access

Activity One: (10-15) Hook Open about how prom is coming up around the corner and while there are many fun times to be shared, there are also some experiences that may be expected that parents have reason to worry about. Body- Use teen quiz to discuss as the class and what they would have done or think they will experience as they review the scenarios. Assessment- At the end of the quiz points are accumulated based on the answers given. Reflect on how the scenarios went and if the students knew, understood, and could handle those situations based on what they had learned. They may also share some of their worries about the issue or discuss some times that they themselves have felt like they were feeling pressured or uncomfortable and how they could have handled that situation as well.

Activity Two: (10-12) Students will break up into their rows and stand behind the last seat in the row. Each row should have an even number of students. If not, students may move in order for this to happen. These rows become their teams for the activity. On each desk there will be a notecard containing a true/false statement that must be answered by each person on the team. Once the questions are answered, the last person in the team has to properly put the condom on the banana that is sitting on the last desk and return back to their team. It is a relay to see who finishes first, however, if neither condom or questions are correct then the team is disqualified.

When the teams complete their tasks, we will review why the condoms were on properly, their effectiveness/positives, and the answers to the true/false statements.

Activity Three: (10-15) We will discuss as a class how the new contraceptive laws will help to alleviate unwanted pregnancies, the pros and cons, and how there are a variety of steps a couple can take in order to practice safe and healthy sex or abstinence. Instructor lists resources for medical information, medical tools, and counseling services offered here at the school.

Back-up Activity: If website failed to cooperate then the scenarios are printed on paper in order to still discuss and quiz.

Summary: Students will answer what questions they have at the end of the quiz and discuss if the quiz was even the most accurate of displaying the scenarios. Discuss with a close on how they expect or have experienced prom nights and if the pressures are realistic or unrealistic. Students will be asked to say one thing that can help prevent falling under the pressures or help to practice safe sex.
