FRACTURE ANALYSIS OF (FIBER REINFORCED PLASTICS) COMPOSITE PLATES

The objective of the present work is to investigate the Stress Intensity Factor (SIF) for benchmark problems for static and dynamic loading in composite plates having center, edge crack. Further the analysis is extended to CT specimen, plate with 3point bend, v-notch and double edge notch. In the static analysis SIFs are found for an isotropic material using singular and j-integral approach and it is inferred that the deviation is minimal. For the orthotropic material SIF is found out for the above specimens with Carbon UD/Epoxy, R Glass roving UD/epoxy, S 2 glass fabric/epoxy material properties.

STRESS ANALYSIS OF LAMINATED COMPOSITE PLATES

The numerical analysis performed to predict the engineering properties of the multilayered plates and the stress-strain distributions for various lamination angles of continuous fiber composite laminate are described. The computations of the stress and strain values for the angle-ply-layered symmetric laminated plate with various lamination angles ()s of laminas under combined loads are carried out. The analyzed laminate plates have been composed with unidirectional layers that were made from composite materials. The numerical results in this work were calculated by use of ANSYS for analyzing of multilayered plates made from composite material.

BUCKLING ANALYSIS OF FIBER REINFORCED LAMINATED COMPOSITE PLATES

Plate buckling of composite material is an important characteristic to be analyzed to predict its behavior under compressive loads. Most of the applications of composite materials qualify to be modeled as plate problems. In this work, an effort is made to predict the effects of fiber orientation on buckling loads of fiber reinforced composite materials using Mindlin theory and Classical plate theory which is modeled as eigenvalue problem. Further the study is extended to Nonlinear analysis of buckling of composite plates. The numerical results in this work were calculated by the use of ANSYS.

STRESS ANALYSES OF COMPOSITE LAMINATE PLATES WITH DIFFERENT CUTOUTS

This project presents theoretical investigation of the effect of cutouts on the stress and strain of composite laminate plates subjected to static loads. The area covers measurement of the normal strain at the edges of circular and square holes with different number of layers and types of composite materials under constant tensile loads. A numerical investigation has been achieved by using the software package (ANSYS), involving static analysis of symmetric square plates with different types of cutouts. The numerical results include the parametric effects of lamination angle, hole dimensions, types of hole and the number of layers of a symmetric square plate.

ANALYSIS OF COMPOSITE PRESSURE VESSEL FOR VARIOUS FIBER ORIENTATION ANGLES

The composite pressure vessels are used in varieties of applications such as automobile, aeronautics and chemical engineering. Besides these, they have become very popular in oil and gas transport industries. These pressure vessels are experience very high internal pressures during their operation. The present work demonstrates a study on cylindrical section of carbon fiber reinforced polymer (CFRP) composite pressure vessel. The pressure vessel is designed and modeled using the finite element software ANSYS. The step by step procedure for the finite element modeling of multilayered composite pressure vessels has been discussed in the project. The modeling is performed for both hoop and helical windings of the fibers in pressure vessel. The burst pressure for each of the fiber orientations is predicted based on the Tsai-Wu failure criteria.

MODELING, FABRICATION AND SIMULATION OF 6-DOF MOTION PLATFORM

Kinematic analysis is an important part of mechanical design. Robotics has been providing an opportunity for developing new mechanism to perform various tasks. Parallel mechanisms are being researched for various applications. It is essential to know that the assembly behaves as intended and is free from singularities within the working environment. This project aims at developing a miniature Stewart-Gough platform to enable students of robotics to understand and analyze the 6-DOF parallel mechanism. Pro-Mechanica is an efficient CAD

simulation tool to analyze the kinematic behavior of an assembly. This report presents the details of modeling and simulation of a 6 degree of freedom (DOF) motion platform.
