The VERITAS Product License and Installation Guide contains important information for VERITAS customers regarding the licensing and installation of VERITAS software products they have purchased. Please read this document in its entirety.

Products and Procedures


VERITAS Software Corporations new product distribution method enhances the processes for licensing and installing applications. This guide tells you about these new processes, and how to expedite use of your new software. Note The automated installation process described in this document is valid only for new product purchases. You cannot install upgrades for previously purchased products using this procedure. If you are upgrading a product, see the appropriate product Installation Guide and Release Notes prior to beginning any upgrade. Locating Products The package you have received contains a set of CDs that include the VERITAS Release Train applications, their documentation, and a menu for their installation, as well as a CD that includes the VCS product agents. The list of products appears in the Installation Menu. To see product descriptions, press p on the menu. Note You must purchase, license, and install each desired VERITAS software product individually. Only those VERITAS software products for which you have purchased a license are available for your immediate use even though other VERITAS products may be included on the enclosed CDs.

Licensing and Installation Procedures


Complete the following procedures to use your new application: N Obtain a software license key. See Obtaining a Product License on page 3. You can obtain a license key by either:

Accessing the VERITAS vLicenseTM web site (recommended) Faxing the License Key Request Form located in the product box

Install the software product. See Installing the Software on page 5. You can install the product using either:

Caution

The installation menu found on the product CDs. A command line installation. For either installation procedure, read the Installation Guide and Release Notes for each product you have purchased to ensure that your system is properly congured before beginning the installation.

Locating and Displaying Documentation


VERITAS does not include bound paper copies of product guides in this product package. Instead, we have included copies in Portable Document Format (.pdf) of all the product documents on the enclosed CD set. To see the available documents, change to the necessary directory on the appropriate CD: For the products on VERITAS Storage Solutions Disc 1:

For the products on VERITAS Storage Solutions Disc 2:

Ordering Hard Copy Documents VERITAS also makes available for purchase bound paper copies of its software guides. You can obtain copies either by contacting your salesperson, or by ordering directly from the VERITAS DocStoreTM at http://www.veritas.com/docstore.

Obtaining a Product License


To receive a valid software license key for the product you have purchased, complete one of the procedures described in this document. You cannot use your VERITAS software product until you have completed the licensing process. Using the VERITAS vLicense Web Site to Obtain a License Key You can obtain your license key most efciently using the VERITAS vLicense web site. The License Key Request Form (LKRF) has all the information needed to establish a User Account on vLicense and generate your license key. The LKRF is a one-page insert included with the CDs in your product package. You must have this form to obtain a software license key for your VERITAS product.

Note Do not discard the License Key Request Form. If you have lost or do not have the form for any reason, email [email protected]. The License Key Request Form contains information unique to your VERITAS software purchase. To obtain your software license key, you need the following information shown on the form: N N N Your customer number Your order number Your serial number

Follow the appropriate instructions on the vLicense web site to obtain your license key depending on whether you are a new or previous user of vLicense:

1. Access the web site at http://vlicense.veritas.com. 2. Log in or create a new login, as necessary. 3. Follow the instructions on the pages as they are displayed.
When you receive the generated license key, access the product you want to install on the appropriate disc to begin installation. You can nd the majority of products on VERITAS Storage Solutions Disc 1. Use Disc 2 to install VERITAS Foundation Suite and VERITAS Database Edition for Oracle; use Disc 3 to install the VCS agents.

Faxing the License Key Request Form to Obtain a License Key If you do not have Internet access, you can fax the LKRF to VERITAS. Be advised that faxing the form generally requires several business days to process in order to provide a license key. Prior to faxing, sign and date the form in the appropriate spaces. Fax it to the number shown on the form.

Installing the Software


Depending on the product you have purchased, you can install the software using the Installation Menu provided on VERITAS Storage Solutions Disc 1 or Disc 2, or by using command line entries. You cannot install the VCS product agents from the Installation Menu. It is important to be familiar with the installation requirements and processes for your new VERITAS software prior to beginning the installation. We strongly suggest that you read the appropriate product Installation Guide and Release Notes, found on the included CDs in the product package, in preparation for installing your product. To nd the necessary Installation Guide, see Locating and Displaying Documentation on page 2. Using the Installation Menu to Install You can install any of the included VERITAS products using the Installation Menu. The menu simplies the process of software installation for new products on VERITAS Storage Solutions Disc 1 or Disc 2. To install:

1. Put the CD in the CD-ROM drive. 2. Enter


/cdrom/storage_solutions_solaris_3.5cd_number/installer where cd_number is the number of the appropriate disc, and then press Return. Depending on whether the VRTSvlic application is installed, one of the following is displayed:

A message asking if you want to install VRTSvlic If it is not installed, follow the instructions for installation. The Product Status page, which shows:

Products available for installation Whether a version of any of the products is currently installed Whether any of the installed products are licensed

Note For a report of the license type in effect for each product, enter /opt/VRTS/bin/vxlicrep on a command line.

Options for operations you can initiate

3. At the prompt on the Product Status page, enter 1 to add a license key, and
then press Return to begin.

4. At the next prompt, enter the license key and then press Return. 6

5. At the Product Status page, enter 2 for the Installation Menu, and then press
Return. The Installation Menu is displayed.

6. At the Installation Menu, enter the number of the product you want to install,
and then press Return. The product installation begins automatically. When the operation nishes, the Installation Menu is displayed again. Using the Command Line to Install If you are accustomed to installing, or prefer to install, your products using a command line format, this option is available for the included products. To install:

1. Change to the directory on the CD for the product you want to install. 2. Access the following directories to locate the Installation Guides and Release

3. Read the product Installation Guide and the Release Notes thoroughly.

4. Begin the installation procedure according to the instructions in the


documents.
