How To Write Open Essays

The programme consisted of 4 steps taught over 4 weeks to guide students in essay writing skills and expose them to outlining techniques. It aimed to help students apply what they learned to writing exams. Around 300 students from Form 3 and Form 5 participated. The total budget was RM250 which covered materials like folders and paper. The programme aimed to improve students' ability to generate ideas and organize essays.

INTRODUCTION

How To Write Open Essays? is one of the programmes planned by the English Language Panel for form three and form five students. The purpose of the programme is to guide the students in essay writing skills and to expose the students to the fish-boning techniques. This programme is one of our efforts to improve English Language acquisition among the students.

1.1 Rationale a. students learn proper methods in writing essays b. Students with low proficiency level manage to catch up the lesson as this is a step by step programme. 1.2 Objective i. Students should be able to apply the methods learnt in their essay writing ii. Students come out with a complete 6 paragraphs essay, checked and verified by the ELP

Closure

The exposure to the correct methods in essay writing will help the students to generate better ideas and organize their essay. It is hoped that this programme will boast the students ability to write better essay and apply the methods learnt for PMR paper 2 and SPM paper 1.
