Formulas Astm D 4867

The document describes how to calculate tensile strength and tensile strength ratio from a tensile test. Tensile strength is calculated by dividing the maximum load by the product of the specimen height and diameter. Tensile strength ratio is calculated by dividing the average tensile strength of a moisture-conditioned subset by the average tensile strength of a dry subset and multiplying by 100.

9. Calculation 9.

1 Calculate the tensile strength as follows:

St 5 2000 P ptD ~kPa! or St 5 2P/ptD ~psi! (1)

where: St 5 tensile strength, kPa (psi) P 5 maximum load, N (lbf) t 5 specimen height immediately before tensile test, mm (in.), and D 5 specimen diameter, mm (in.). 9.2 Calculate the tensile strength ratio as follows:
TSR 5 ~Stm/Std!100 (2)

where: TSR 5 tensile strength ratio, % Stm 5 average tensile strength of the moistureconditioned subset, kPa (psi), and 5 average tensile strength of the dry subset, kPa (psi). Std
