beginning on August 12, 2013. Visitors will now be able to utilize a frst of its kind self-

The City of San Ramon is home to 54
beautiful parks that San Ramon residents
are proud of, and that thousands of people
enjoy each week. Join our professional
park maintenance staf for a cleanup
event to assist the City in maintaining
neighborhood parks. Tasks may include
planting, pruning, applying mulch,
replacing sand box materials, painting and
general clean up. The event is open to all
ages however children under 13 must be
accompanied by an adult. Volunteers are
asked to bring work gloves and will need to

September as National Senior Center Month
with the theme Experts at Living Well
and to celebrate, the City of San Ramon
Senior Advisory Committee and Senior

an Open House to showcase the Alcosta
Senior Center and the wonderful programs
and classes ofered for ages 55+. Class
demonstrations, displays and refreshments

Start the holiday season of with a healthy

Participants will receive a holiday long

Open for Fun on the Farm the Second Saturday of Each Month, 10:00am to 2:00pm
Glass House Tour: 10:00am, 11:00am, 12:00 noon & 1:00pm All About the Farm Tour: 11:00am & 1:00pm
Enjoy interactive exhibits, the tractor museum, the beautiful grounds and free activities centered around a diferent theme each month. Tour
the Glass House Museum or farm with a docent to travel back in time to the early days of the San Ramon Valley. Visit the Welcome Center to
view exhibits and purchase old-fashioned toys and gifts at the Gift Shoppe. (Tours are $5 per person, or $8 for both tours on the same day.)
September 14Jam and Bread Follow wheat from the feld to the table as you thresh, grind, and sift wheat kernels to make four
then fnd out how it turns into tasty bread. Of course bread is even better with jam. Learn about the process of canning, and discover
what unusual varieties of jams Ruth Boone made and sold at the farm in the mid 1900s.
October 12Horse Power to Gasoline Power Imagine starting your trip by hitching up the horses instead of stepping on the gas.
The 1900s brought a switch from animal power to gasoline power. Visit the farm to see examples of vehicles and equipment from both
eras. Horseshoes, reins, bridles, saddles and haytake a look at what was involved when horsepower really meant horses. Then trace
the changes in automobiles and engines from the early days through the 1950s as you view hit-and-miss engines and the cars several
car clubs have on display.
November 9Walnuts and Woodworking After harvest, the hull (the green layer that covers the shell) of the walnut needs to be
removed. See our antique huller in action doing this job, and learn more about this nut that was an important crop in the San Ramon
Valley. Next, take a look at how wood is worked to make everything from toys to buildings. Try your hand at drilling with a hand-powered
drill, and make a wooden top to take home.

Behind-the-Scenes with Tractors
Learn all about tractors! Take a behind-the-
scenes look at the tractor restoration process.
Includes a tour of the Tractor Museum with
over 30 restored tractors. Look inside the
machine shop, hands-on interactive displays
and a video showing tractor restoration. Tours
are available on Tuesdays and Thursdays. For
groups of 10 or more, ages 8 and up (great
for Car Clubs, Scout groups and tractor
enthusiasts). $5 per person
Fun with Farm Animals
Forest Home Farms Historic Park has sheep,
horses and chickens. On this 45-minute tour
you will learn what animals eat, how they
are cleaned, sheep herding, and more! We
work with scout groups to fulfll animal care
badge requirements. For childrens groups
of 10 or more, ages 5 and up. $5 per person
All About the Farm
This tour provides the background and
history of Forest Home Farms Historic
Park. Learn about the Boone Family that
purchased the farm in 1899 and see all the
buildings and exhibits including the Tractor
Museum with over 30 restored antique
tractors. For families and groups of 10 or
more. $5 per person
Dig in and Grow
Have an adventure in our organic garden!
During this 45-minute tour children will learn
about the principles of organic gardening,
composting, recycling and the role of bees
in the garden. This tour will include hands
on activities and fresh garden tastings,
when available. For childrens groups of 10
or more, ages 5 and up. $5 per person
Preschool Fun at the Farm
Theres lots of fun waiting for you at the
farm! Visit the chickens and sheep and
see all the tractors! Enjoy singing farm
songs and hearing stories. For preschool
groups ages 3 to 5 years of age and their
chaperones. For groups of 10 or more only.

Glass House Museum
Built in 1877, the Glass House has been
restored to its original beauty and fully
furnished. Step back in time to the Victorian
era to see what life was like in the San
Ramon Valley for a farm family in the late
19th century. For groups of 10 or more only.

Calling all little Farmers-- it is time for
stories and more at Forest Home Farms
Historic Park. Fall is a fun time to gather at
Forest Home Farms Historic Park to hear
stories, sing songs and learn about apples.
Children must be accompanied by an adult,
but only children need to register.
Home School Day
Thursday, October 17 9:00am-3:00pm
Forest Home Farms Historic Park
Ages 5 - 15 $10 per person Act# 87928
The program will highlight the agricultural
history of the San Ramon Valley as well as
daily life in the Victorian era. The day will
include tours of the farm property, the
tractor museum, a tour of the Glass House
Museum as well as interactive activities
including tending the chickens, chores
and Victorian games. One adult chaperone
required for each 5 children, but only the
child must register. Participants should
dress in clothing appropriate for outdoor
activities including closed toed shoes and
a jacket. Please bring a sack lunch.
Exhibit on the Incorporation of
the City of San Ramon
Glass House Museum
Forest Home Farms Historic Park
Visit the Glass House Museum July
through November to see a special exhibit
featuring artifacts pertaining to the Citys
incorporation in 1983. Discover who was
involved in the incorporation process and
how San Ramon came to be a City. See
campaign memorabilia from the Citys
frst election for City Council Members,
and read the minutes from the frst City
Council Meeting. The exhibit can be seen
on the 2nd Saturday of each month, or by
appointment. To schedule a group tour,

Holidays on the Farm
Saturdays, December 7 & 14, 10:00am to 2:00pm
Forest Home Farms Historic Park
Enjoy an old-fashioned celebration at
Holidays on the Farm on both Saturdays.
Admission is FREE! Two of Santas
reindeer will make a special visit! Each
Saturday, enjoy entertainment, tractor
rides, Victorian ornament making, sheep
herding demonstrations, and visits with a
Victorian Santa. On Saturday, December
7, the Puppet Company will present The
Nutcracker at 11:30 a.m. And there will be
a special Holiday Market with vendors on
December 14. Tours of the farm and Glass
House Museum will be available for $5 per
person. Presented by the City of San Ramon
and the San Ramon Historic Foundation.

Docent Orientation
Wednesday, August 28, 6:00-7:00pm
Join us for this informational meeting
about becoming a docent at Forest Home
Farms Historic Park. Being a docent is a fun
way to share information about this special
site and its history. You will also meet a
diverse group of interesting people and
enjoy volunteer outings and social events.
This orientation will introduce you to
programs at both the Glass House Museum
and on the farm side of the property
(see descriptions below). Follow up with
training for whichever area interests you

Farm Life Field Trip Docent
If you enjoy working with kids, were looking
for you! This 3rd grade education program
runs September through November, and
February through June. Volunteers need
to be available on weekday mornings
and be able to lead two tours per month.
Previous experience working with children
and public speaking is helpful, but not
required. Four fun roles to play: grandpa,
grandma, gardener, and canner. We train
by mentoring you with our other wonderful

This is an opportunity to share your interest
in history or gardening on weekday
afternoons and on the second Saturday
of the month. Public tour and after-school
programs provide an opportunity to work

Built in 1877, the Italianate style Victorian
home has been beautifully restored and
furnished, and is open for tours and school-
age education programs. Volunteers
will be trained to lead a variety of tours,
provide educational programs, participate
in special events, and assist with historic

Pool Picnics
Have your birthday at the pool! Picnics include a semi-private shaded picnic area and
access to all pools. Adult chaperones required on a 1:5 ratio. Picnic reservations can be
made for the San Ramon Olympic Pool & Aquatic Park or the Dougherty Valley Aquatic
Center during publicized Recreation Swim hours. For fees, please call 973-3240.
ALL reservations must be made at least 2 weeks (14 days) prior to reservation
date and paid in full.
No make-up lessons or credits for missed
classes are given. If a class or session is
cancelled by the Parks & Community
Services Department, a refund/credit
will be issued to your account.
Registration for swim lessons will close
3 days prior to the start of the class with
the exception of Private Swim lesson
registration which will close the day
before.
Once the swim lesson has begun,
staf will not be able to add additional
students to the class.
Refunds are not given for weather or
lack of child participation.
Transfers between classes may only be
allowed if there is room in the class and
approved by the Pool Manager on duty.
Refund/credit/transfer requests are
allowed up to 7 days prior to the frst
day of class; All refunds/transfers will
be charged a processing fee of $5 for
classes less than $72, each class over
$72 will be charged 7% of fee. Refunds
after program has started are not
guaranteed.
Please keep in mind the possibility of
student progression when signing up
for multiple sessions.
Please allow an adequate amount of
time to fnd parking and arrive to your
swim lesson on time.

frst day of class to check-in and receive

It is essential that each lesson is attended to receive the full beneft of the class.
Lap Swim
Swimming is the #1 exercise among American
adults. Our pools are a comfortable 80F and
provide you with the opportunity to exercise
at your own pace. Beginners to experts
are welcome. Recreation swimming and
horseplay are prohibited. Circle swimming
may be enforced to accommodate more
swimmers if crowded. Adults or guardians
must accompany children ages 12 and under.
Children may not be left unattended on
the pool deck or in the facility.

Skill Levels And Requirements For Ages 3 & Up
The City of San Ramon's Learn-To-Swim Program ofers comprehensive course levels that teach participants how to swim skillfully and
safely. The prerequisite for each level is successful demonstration of the skills taught in the preceding level. Beginners start at the Jellyfsh
level, which has no prerequisites and progress through the classes in the following order: Seahorses, Turtles, Otters, Stingrays, Sharks,
and Dolphins. If you have any questions, please ask an Aquatic Staf member.
The 3-5 Year Old swim lessons follow class requirements for the Jellyfsh, Seahorses, Turtles, and Otter levels. All 3 year old participants

Refunds: Patron requested refunds or transfer requests will be approved only if initiated no
later than 7 business days prior to the first day of class. All Refunds/Transfers will be charged
a processing fee of $5 for classes less than $72, each class over $72 will be charged 7% of fee.

agents, officials, volunteers, sponsors and employees, from and against any and all liability arising out of or connected in any way with me or my child/legal guardians participation
in the above activities, even though the liability may arise out of active or passive negligence or carelessness on the part of the persons or entities mentioned above. I understand the
inherent risks involved in participating in recreational activities including but not limited to terrain, facilities, temperature, weather, condition of participant, equipment, and lack of
hydration. Furthermore, I hereby agree that I, my heirs and assignees will not make claim against, sue, attach the property of, or prosecute the City of San Ramon and any sponsor,
or any affiliate organization for injury or damage resulting from active or passive negligence, carelessness or other acts, howsoever caused by any employee, agent or contractor of
the City of San Ramon or its affiliates, as a result of my participation in the above activities. In the event that the above named individual is a minor, I certify that I am the legal parent
or guardian of the above participant, that he/she is in good physical condition and I give my permission for him/her to participate in the above activities. I hereby acknowledge that
the above named minor has voluntarily applied to participate in the above activities. I agree to accept and abide by all rules and regulations of the event/program and the city of San
Ramon. The City of San Ramon and its staff are authorized to use their discretion to secure the necessary emergency services for the participant at my expense. This includes, but is not
limited to emergency treatment, paramedic services and ambulance services. I hereby grant permission to the City to release my email address to contract instructors, coaches, or other
City program providers for City business purposes. I hereby grant permission to the City to take me or my child/legal guardians photo while participating in activities or programs to use
