Project: Pillowcase with Rail Fence Band Materials Assemble Band Assemble Pillowcase

For one pillowcase: 14 yard print No. 1 (band) 3 8 yard print No. 2 (band) 7 8 yard print No. 3 (pillowcase body) Finished pillowcase: 30 20" (fits a standard-size bed pillow) Finished block: 5" square Quantities are for 44/45"-wide, 100% cotton fabrics. Measurements include 1 4" seam allowances for piecing blocks and 1 2" seam allowances for pillowcase construction. Sew with right sides together unless otherwise specified.

Use a 1 4" seam allowance for the following steps.


1. Referring to Diagram 1,

Use a seam allowance for the following steps, except where noted.
1. Fold print No. 3253441"

sew together two print No. 113442" strips and two print No. 213442" strips to make a strip set. Press seams in one direction. Repeat to make a second strip set.
2. Cut strip sets into a total of eight

rectangle in half to form a 2534 201 2" rectangle. Sew together long edges and one pair of short edges to make pillowcase body. Turn right side out and press flat.

segments in a row, alternating direction with each segment, to make a Rail Fence strip (Band Assembly Diagram). The Rail Fence strip should be 51 2401 2" including seam allowances.
4. Referring to Band Assembly

pillowcase band over pillowcase body with Rail Fence units facing pillowcase body; pin. Using a 1 4" seam allowance, sew together through all layers (Diagram 2).

5. Join short ends of Step 4 unit
