Sustainable Development Studies 253 I. II. III. Course Title: Course Credits: Course Description PEACE AND CONFLICT STUDIES 4.5 units (3 hours/week)
This course introduces graduate students to the methods, concepts and theories used in understanding peace and its dimensions, conflict, non-violence and peace building an it application to the peace process in the Mindanao. Moreover, the students will further be honed with applied skills in the field of peace and conflict studies through an action research of an actual project undertaken by peace practitioners and activists from various foundations, institutions and grassroots organizations in Mindanao. Semester Offered: Second Semester A. Y. 2008 2009 IV. Objectives A. General This course aims to provide students an overview of the field of peace and conflict studies and valuable analytical and peace building skills. B. Specific Specifically, this course seeks to provide a theoretical and practical knowledge in a. the broad and current discourse of peace and related concepts b. the various facets of conflict and violence c. the diverse response to both phenomenon and those actions that particularly contribute to peace in the community and in the bigger society.
