Chapter 1 Questions

A student carried out three experiments to study the effect of a factor on the rate of reaction. Experiment I used 1.2g of magnesium ribbon and 30°C temperature, taking 20 seconds to dissolve all the magnesium. Experiment II used the same conditions except the temperature was 40°C, taking 15 seconds. Experiment III also used 40°C but took 20 seconds. A second set of experiments studied the rate of decomposition of hydrogen peroxide into water and oxygen gas using manganese (IV) oxide as a catalyst. Experiment I used 20cm3 of 2M hydrogen peroxide, while Experiment II used 20cm3 of 4M hydrogen peroxide.
