It has been a pleasure to meet and talk with many of the parents of the students I serve at both Cascade and M. A. Jones Elementary Schools. This newsletter is created primarily to keep parents of Gifted and Talent Development students abreast of classroom topics, activities, and projects. It is a place where students will be celebrated for their achievements and learning. I welcome your feedback on items you would like included as well.

In additions, students and the teacher will use technology daily in innovative ways, such as for blog discussion, research, assessment, flipped classroom assignments and performance tasks using EdModo, Class Dojo, IPads, and computers.

Our Classroom Theme

This years theme is Moving Forward in the Gifted/Talent Development classroom. We will spend critical time cultivating growth in the areas of Advanced Communication, Advanced Research, Higher Order Thinking Skills, and Creative Problem Solving. Students will take part in a variety of enriching and engaging opportunities to develop their abilities and explore academic subjects and interests with both rigor and creativity . According to the website, Edmodo is designed to get students excited about learning in a familiar environment. On Edmodo, teachers can continue classroom discussions online, give polls to check for student understanding, and award badges to individual students based on performance or behavior. Weekly homework assignments will be posted on www.nurturinggifts.blogspot.com no later than Tuesday evening of each week. All assignments, unless otherwise noted, are due the following week on the assigned day your child comes to class.

This week students signed up for their own EdModo account. Each student also agreed to abide by the Code of Conduct while participating in this learning tool. Failure to do so

Parents interested in signing up for the trip to New York City in April please use the information provided below. All payments should be paid to Class Act Tours. You must go online to register at www.classacttours.com 1. Click on the tab at the top right hand of the screen that says: register teachers and parents. Type inside the box that says register for tours (NHSNYC) and click. Click on the words register and sign-up for payment plan if you need the payment plan. If you want to pay all of it at one time then click register and pay in full. Once you click the plan you want then follow the prompts. Choose to pay on-line or mail in the payments. Beginning next week, each student will be assigned to either the 1st-2nd grades Challenge/Talent Development Group or the 3rd 5th grade Challenge/Talent Development group. Students will be able to interact with their peers, teacher, and utilize features such as the backpack, where they can assess links or files they have stored there.
