The Autodesk Data Management Server manages Content Center libraries for Autodesk Inventor and Vault databases for Autodesk Vault and Productstream. Content Center libraries require the Autodesk Data Management Server. Before installing Autodesk Inventor and the Content Center libraries, determine the installation scenario best suited for your company. Consider whether installing Content Center libraries and the Autodesk Data Management Server on a central server is a solution for your company's needs. Content Center libraries installed on a central server can be shared with users using Autodesk Inventor 11 on their local machine. This is especially useful if you work on projects requiring you to create custom libraries. It minimizes space requirements on the local computers. Autodesk Data Management Server requires Microsoft Internet Information Services (IIS) for anything more than a single-user installation. Before the server is installed, a check is performed to verify the presence of IIS. If you are installing the libraries locally, the Autodesk Web Server is installed if IIS is not available or installed.
Step 1
Install Content Center libraries and the Autodesk Data Management Server on a shared remote server: 1. Install the Web server, Internet Information Services (IIS), on the remote server. IIS must be installed on the computer before you install Autodesk Data Management Server. For installation details, see the Autodesk Data Management Server Implementation Guide. 2. During installation, in the Autodesk Inventor and Data Management Solutions dialog box, clear the check box, I would like to install Autodesk Vault on this machine. Typically, you install Autodesk Vault on the local (client) computers. 3. In the Describe your working environment dialog, select the check box for I want to make this computer my ADMS server.

4. In the Customize your install dialog, cancel the selection of Autodesk Inventor if you do not plan to use Autodesk Inventor on this system. 5. In the Ready to Install Application dialog, click Next to install the applications you selected.
Step 2
Install the Client components and configure the local computers to access the libraries on the shared remote server. 1. To use Autodesk Vault to manage your CAD data, during installation, in the Autodesk Inventor and Data Management Solutions dialog, select the check box for I would like to install Autodesk Vault on this machine. 2. In the Describe your working environment dialog, select the check box for I work as a part of a multi-user team. In response to I need to be able to use Inventor while disconnected from my companys network. ADMS and Content Center libraries will also be installed on this computer: Select the check box if the user must access the Content Center libraries when not connected to the company's server. Autodesk Web Service (if IIS is not on your local drive) are installed so that the user can continue to access the Content Center libraries when not connected to the companys server. Content Center libraries are also installed on the users computer if you choose this option. NOTE: It is recommended that you work as a Read-Only Content Center user when you are not working in your multi-user environment, and you are disconnected from the company's network. In Autodesk Inventor, log into the Autodesk Data Management Server as localhost for the server, so that you can continue to access Content Center data. Leave the check box cleared if the user is working in a shared environment accessing the Content Center libraries from a central server, and does not need to access the Content Center libraries when not connected to the Company's server.
3. In the Ready to Install Application dialog, click Next to Install Autodesk Inventor 11.
Step 3
Configure the local computers: 1. Start Autodesk Inventor on each of the local computers. 2. Log into the Autodesk Data Management Server: File > Data Management Server > Log In. a. User name: Enter the user name for an administrator account (the default administrator account is Administrator). b. Password: Enter the password (by default, no password is required).

c. Server: Enter the name of the computer on which the Autodesk Data Management Server is installed. For example: OR OR The full computer name for your network domain (for example, pcname.xyz.autodesk.com). Database: Enter the name of a Vault database located on the specified server. The default is Vault. The IP address (for example: 141.111.111.111) MyRemoteServer
3. In the Project dialog box, click Folder Options. Specify a path to the root folder for the Content Center library files used by the current project for Content Center files in the Project dialog box. Content Center library files are copied to this location when you access and edit a standard part. Specify the path to the network location on each of the local machines if you want each user to automatically get the most recent library content. 4. Click Save.
Step 4
Create accounts for Content Center Editors and Administrators. In Autodesk Vault Manager, create user accounts for anyone requiring editing permissions. Communicate user account information and the Log In procedure to each member in the team.
To install Content Center and all the libraries on the same workstation
1. During installation, in the Autodesk Inventor and Data Management Solutions dialog, select the check box, I would like to install Autodesk Vault on this machine, if you plan to use Autodesk Vault to manage your CAD data. 2. In the Describe your working environment dialog, select the check box for I work as a stand-alone user. 3. In the Ready to Install Application dialog, click Next to Install Autodesk Inventor 11, Autodesk Data Management Server, and the Content Center libraries on your local system.

Note: Whenever you ugrade from a previous version of Autodesk Vault Data Management Server to a new server build: 1. Make a backup of your data, using Autodesk Vault Manager. 2. Remove any Standard Content Libraries Using Autodesk Vault Manager. 3. Remove Autodesk Data Management Server 5.0 4. Remove "C:\Program Files\Autodesk\Data Management Server 5.0" folder if it exists. 5. Remove "C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Autodesk\VaultServer" folder. To remove all remnants of the Autodesk Vault Data Management Server, do the following: 1. Remove Microsoft SQL Server Desktop Engine (AUTODESKVAULT). 2. Remove "C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL$AUTODESKVAULT" folder.
System requirements
Approximately 1.3GB of hard drive space is required when the installation is completed. An additional 1GB of temp space is required for installation or maintenance operations on the database.
For sites where every user has exactly the same configuration
This applies to all license types. 1. On the Autodesk Inventor installation CD-ROM, select Network Deployment and proceed with installation. 2. You can build a deployment image that: Installs silently on any system. o All options are preset during the process of creating the deployment image. o The user cannot change the configuration. Installs in non-silentmode. o The defaults for each option are set to what is selected during the construction of the deployment image. This image is suitable for push-installs to client workstations.
