I hope everyone enjoyed the long Labor Day weekend. The extra day seemed to give the children a little more time to rest from the first two weeks of school. Wow!! I cant believe we are already three weeks in. The kids are just chugging right along: learning the rules, expectations, and procedures for the classroom as well as other parts of our day. Here is a look at the things that happened this week: glyph is a type of pictograph that represents information without words. Glyphs allow students to collect, display, and interpret data about themselves and other meaningful topics. Glyphs also help children learn how to read legends or keys to interpret information.

Journal:
In your childs Thursday Folder is a letter telling you the date that they will share a story for shared journal. Next week we will begin the shared journal process. Each day a child will a share a story about them and everyone will write about that story. This is an important part of our day where we learn and practice writing, reading, and telling a story. Please work with your child to practice their story. The first time sharing is always a little scary for some.

Theme
We discussed homes this week. We learned about the importance of homes and how essentially, everything has some kind of home (i.e. a hive is a home for a bee, etc.). This led us into the importance of homes and how they keep us safe and protected. We learned the steps to building a house. We added these steps to our block center.

Homework
Please keep working with your child to complete the homework calendar for September. You will be amazed at what they are capable of achieving!! I know you already know that though!!! Dont forget to return the calendar on October 1. If you have misplaced yours, please let me know and I will be happy to get you another one. Thank you for all that you do!!!

The Rainbow Fish This week we learned all about the colors. We talked about how colors are words that we should always spell correctly and be able to recognize. We added them to our word wall. We also mixed colors and learned what happens when we mix two colors. The children loved it!!! We also talked about the different shapes in the environment. The children made a class book called Shape Zoo The children had to use a shape to create an animal. Then they filled in the sentence for A _________ (color) ___________ (shape) became a _________ (animal). We had lots of fun reading our book!!!!!
