Background
CMSCity Montessori School is the worlds largest city-school with 20 campuses in the city of Lucknow. The school that began with just 5 children in 1959 on a borrowed capital of `300, today has over 45,000 students from Montessori to Class XII (ICSE & ISC) in the current session. CMS founders, Dr Jagdish Gandhi and Dr Bharti Gandhi, inspired by the teachings of Mahatma Gandhi and Sant Vinoba Bhave, started CMS to inspire generations of children to become socially motivated and conscious citizens of India and the world. Their motto Jai Jagat has been the school's greeting from the beginning. CMS children are taught the value of 'Vasudhaiv Kutumbukum', or the Earth is but One Country and Mankind its Citizens'.
CMS Mission
CMS mission is to inspire every child to become both good and smart, a gift of God to mankind, a pride of the human race, and a potential light of the world.
CMS is not a school like any other. It is distinctive not only for its size. More than anything, it stands out because of its philosophy: For more than 40 years, it has educated students to respect the values of tolerance and peace and sought to make them citizens of the world. Joyful years
CMS, though it is sometimes perceived differently, is primarily a school for the young child with more than three-fifths of its student body below the age of 11. CMS believes that the content of education of a young child greatly determines a child's mind set and personality and ultimately his future success. The CMS school environment is engaging and responsive to a child at each stage of development.
CMS focuses on six aspects of learning that provide a comprehensive framework for a childs development at the preprimary level: 1. Personal, social and emotional development 2. Communication, language and literacy 3. Problem solving, reasoning and numeracy 4. Knowledge and understanding of the world 5. Physical development 6. Creative development

Innovative Approaches
Exchange Programmes CISV (Children's International Summer Village) and ISSE (International School to School Exchange) programmes are held regularly each year. Children from 10-12 countries participate in CISV camps from across the globe. They stay together for a whole month to develop cross-cultural understanding and build a lifetime of friendships. In ISSE, students of one country visit another country for 3-4 weeks and attend classes in the host country. They stay with host families and develop an understanding of that country's culture, education, customs, etc. CISV Mini Camps Two-day CISV Mini Camps are routinely organised at CMS for children to learn about the spirit of collaboration appreciating of differences and value of team work. Children learn dances and songs of different countries and languages. Junior Model Workshops - Good before Smart CMS consides it more important that a child be good than s/ he be smart. Knowledge without character is harmful. Special workshops are held for moral teaching in which virtues are taught through story telling, dramatisation, poetry and music. Social Service Projects From tree planting to visiting sick patients and teaching deprived children to read and write, CMS students put in effort to contribute to the well-being of society.

CMS, in partnership with the parents, seeks to instill in its students high standards of academic scholarship, integrity, leadership and responsible citizenship. We help each student improve the skills needed for success in secondary school, and establish values that will allow him to act with thoughtfulness and humanity. Children are provided with strategies and the Keys to Success in Board Examinations that help them to plan better and study smarter, not just harder. Academic excellence is only one of the goals. Students emerging from CMS showcase a commitment to service and possess qualities of the heart. In an IIM Lucknow Study, CMS students showcased more human qualities than students in the comparison group of schools from six cities of UP.
