SUPERVISION OF CHILDREN AT THE END OF THE SCHOOL DAY Sadly, we have received two complaints from local residents on Severn Drive recently. An indentation was found on a car bonnet and felt tip was scribbled on the same cars registration plate. Another child was found to be climbing on a residents garden wall, which may well have been unsafe for the child in question. May I please ask all parents of younger children to remain most vigilant to ensure that we do not upset our residents and community. I would be extremely grateful for your support on this point. Many thanks SCHOOL COUNCIL The School Council had their first meeting today with me. We made an excellent start with some interesting ideas shared and decisions made that will soon be revealed to the children. Children were keen to improve the junior playground with furniture to sit on and have house team captains and vice captains to represent each house team colour. The children also discussed names for each coloured team, such as Fire (Red), Earth (Green), Water (Blue) and Wind (Yellow). YELLOW MOON PTA FUNDS Going home today with your child will be a Yellow Moon catalogue full of crafts, toys and gifts. Our PTA will receive 20% cash back on all products bought. If you do not receive a catalogue spares will be available from the school office. Heres what you need to do: Place your order with Yellow Moon online, by phone or fax (see catalogue for full details) IMPORTANT - quote or input the unique source code shown on the front of your catalogue to ensure our school earns up to 20% cash-back (excl. VAT, delivery and special offers) on your purchases SPREAD THE WORD - dont forget to show the catalogue to friends and family as they may want to add to your order Yellow Moon will send your order direct to your home!

OCTOBER - NOT AN INSET DAY

Previous holiday forms which have listed the above date as an INSET day should be disregarded. Older date lists have originally included this as a day off for pupils, however, school will open as usual on this date. The most up to date holiday form is available under Term Dates on our website. YEAR 6 MACMILLAN COFFEE MORNING SUCCESS Id like to thank all the parents and families that attend our MacMillan Coffee Morning, it was lovely to see such a positive turn out. We managed to raise a huge 213.02 for the charity! All the children enjoyed making the cakes in the classroom and it was fantastic to see them so enthusiastic about raising money for such a good cause. REMINDER FOR OUR NEW PARENTS Just a quick reminder to all of our new parents to ensure when sending any money into school it is in a sealed envelope with your childs name class and is labelled clearly with the purpose e.g. dinner money/swimming donation. Any money or reply slips can be posted into any of our grey secure boxes located around school. Small brown envelopes with school stamp can be purchased from the office 50p for 25. I would like to invite our parents along to our KS1 Harvest Festival Assembly on the 17 October at 11am which will be th held in the infant hall, please see the slip attached to this newsletter and return to the school office by 27 September. The junior children will have a similar event at 2pm which will take place at St Aidans Church. This event unfortunately will not be open to parents due to lack of seating capacity. The juniors and infants will be asked to bring in any food for these events so that they can be donated from the school to a local food bank linked with St Aidans Church for the community of Bamber Bridge and Walton le Dale. Food that is donated should be in date and dried or tinned. E.g. Pasta, rice, noodles etc. GENERAL MESSAGE I would like to please ask you to help us ensure that your children arrive at school with coats now as the weather is becoming more autumnal! We would also really appreciate children having items such as musical instruments, PE kits, swimming kits and lunchboxes on the correct days. Also if your child is absent for any reason could we please ask that you ring school and leave us a short message with your childs name, class and reason for absence each day. Thank you so much! SCHOOL DINNERS We have sent out a new menu to all parents for children receiving school dinners. I would like to point out that this one looks so much better that the last! Debbie, our school cook, is delighted with a much more sensible range of options that children will enjoy. Please have a good look and decide if your child would like to have a hot dinner as the colder weather approaches. I would like to inform parents that all children will be given a healthy choice on their plate (vegetables) each meal. ADMISSIONS TO PRIMARY SCHOOL SEPT 2014 If anybody has any children whose birthdays are between 01.09.09 and 31.08.10, please be aware that you are th required to select a school before 15 January. This, for the first time, must be performed online. SWIMMING POOL DONATIONS - IMPORTANT As you are aware your children swim regularly at our school as we have a pool on the premises. I would like to appeal to all our parents for a donation for 1 a week towards this facility to help us with running costs as this makes a huge difference to its affordability. It is very rare for children of primary age to have such a regular swimming timetable and the standard of childrens swimming is far above and beyond standards seen in other primary schools as a result of

this. If you wish to make this donation in a lump sum by the term this would be useful to the school office staff. This would result in 15 for the whole term which is good value. Many thanks in anticipation of your ongoing support! SEWING CLUB This week our sewing club started and we are appealing to all our parents to donate any pieces of fabric, ribbon, thread, sequins, buttons, beads etc that we could use towards making textile blood bags for The Blood Bag Project which raises the awareness of Diamond Blackfan Anaemia. If you wish to donate anything red and crafty please hand this into the school office.
