This experiment tested the solubility of various organic compounds in different solvents at both room temperature and higher temperatures. The results found that some organic compounds dissolved in organic solvents, with some dissolving at room temperature and others only dissolving at higher temperatures. The deviations from expected solubility results were thought to be due to factors like intermolecular forces, functional groups of the compounds, and temperature.

EXPERIMRNT 1:SOLUBILITY OF ORGANIC COMPOUND ABSTRACT Solubility is a property of a solute to dissolve in solvent to form homogeneous solution.

understanding solubility of organic compound is the important thing to consider when we deal with organic compound especiallty during separation. This experiment carried out by testing the solubility of onganic compound in different solvents.it done by mixing each organic compound with different solvent at room temperature but in some cases the mixture heated up to check the effect of temperature on solubility. The result observed was some organic compound dissolve in some solvents mostly organic solvents.also some dissolve at room temperature while other dissolve at a temperature greater than room temperature The deviation of the solubility of organic compound from their expectation was discussed to be caused by those factors affecting solubility as well as the time for reaction to compete

Ethanol is completely miscible in water because its -OH group can be involved in hydrogen bonding with water

Propane is insoluble in water because it is not polar, nor capable

INTRODUCTION

THEORETICAL PRINCIPLE Solubility is the property of a solute to dissolve in a solvent to form homogeneous solution.the solubility of a substance fundamentary depend on physical and chemical properties of the solute and solvent used as well as temperature, pressure and the pH of the solution. Solubility is really controlled by intermolecular forces.however the simple empirical is very usefully that like dissolve like where by the polarity the system is the basic.the substance with similar intermolecular attractive force tend to be soluble in one another or you can say polar molecules dissolve in polar solvents. He polarity of organic molecule is determined by the polar bonds due to the presence electronegative atoms in polar functional groups.since the polarity of an organic molecule is releted to the presence of polar functional group, the solubility characteristics of an organic compound can provide experimental evidence for the presence or absence of several important functional groups. There are main factors that control the solubility of the organic compound are such as temperature, intermolecular forces ,number of carbon atim and the structure of organic molecules The solubiliy increases with the rise in temperature and decreases with the fall in temperature.the compound with less number of carbon tend to have greater solubility than those with higher number of carbons.also the substance wigth similar intermolecular attractive force tend to be soluble in one another.
