News From Room 207

Week of 10/21/13
Our Grandfriends Luncheon is quickly approaching on November 13, 2013. I have attached an informational sheet. The luncheon order forms for this event are due this Tuesday, 10/22/13. I hope your child will invite a Grandfriend to join us for this meaningful event. Golden envelopes will be coming home on Monday. Please review the contents with your child, sign the envelope, return all of the contents into the envelope and send it to school on Tuesday. Our Rocks and Minerals test is on Wednesday. Your children should be using their study guide to get ready for the test. We will look at the Rock Cycle next. Our next genre will be Mystery. Your children have until Friday, October 25, 2013 to pick out a mystery chapter book and share the choice with me. Your children will need to read the book and complete a project by November 26th. Instead of doing a Quilt Square for this book, your children will be able to choose one of the attached project ideas. The completed organizer needs to be turned in along with project. Projects can always be handed in before the due date. We would like to build up a selection of items to use during outdoor recess. If you have any of these items sitting around at home and you would consider donating them to our classroom, we would really appreciate it. Newly purchased items will also work. We are looking for soccer balls, basketballs, footballs (Nerf ONLY), kick balls, jump ropes, sidewalk chalk, etc. Thank you in advance for your generosity. I am looking forward to a wonderful week!

Quote of the Week

10/9 Emily D

Teachers open the door, but you must enter by yourself.

ELA We will continue to look at how asking questions as we read helps us to increase our comprehension. We began our focus on Story Critical Setting as we wrote a fall setting piece as a class. If you have a chance, stop by and look at our small group story critical setting writes hanging in the hallway. We will continue to focus on setting this week as we take a snapshot in our minds and recreate that picture using our senses and powerful word choice. Read Aloud Although outwardly Mark appears to be a spoiled rich kid that just doesnt care, we are getting to know why Mark is the person he is. It will be interesting to see what happens as the children head out into the woods for their week-long field trip at the State Park. Mr. Maxwell seems to be struggling with giving Mark a chance and Mark has been caught with an item that will send him home or will it?

Math We will complete Unit 3. Students need to practice math facts nightly. Please visit www.everydaymathonline.com as often as possible Social Studies This week your children will finish up learning about what makes up a region and next week they will begin to look at the East Region. Science Our Rocks and Minerals Unit will be assessed in two parts. Our assessment on the properties of Earth Materials will be on October 23, 2013. A study guide will come home on Monday. Next, we will look at the Rock Cycle.
