1 .0 INTRODUCTION This publication is for the information of architectural graduates with degrees in architecture which are not in the list of architectural programmes recognised by the Board of Architects Malaysia to guide them in their preparation for the LAM Part I and/or LAM Part II Examination. 2.0 INTERPRETATION In this Handbook: i) Board refers to the Board of Architects Malaysia

ii) Panel refers to Panel of Part & Part II Examination ii) Part I and/or Part II Examination refers to either the LAM Part I and/or LAM Part II Examination conducted under the auspices of the Board. iii) Examination Council refers to Architectural Examination Council Malaysia iv) Professional Architect refers to the person registered under Section 10(2) of the Architects Act 1967 v) Graduate Architect refers to the person registered under the 10(1)(a) vi) Certified true copy refers to documents which had been certified as true copies of the originals by Professional Architect registered with the respective professional Boards 3.0 3.1 QUALIFICATION FOR ACCEPTANCE Applicants must be Malaysian citizens or permanent residents in Malaysia who possess architectural qualifications. In the case of the latter, evidence must be submitted. Foreign applicants intending to obtain Part I and/or Part II Examination recognition may also apply subject to existing conditions imposed by the Board. An architectural graduate with qualification which is not in the Board's list of recognised programmes shall be required to appear for the Part I and/or Part II Examination conducted by the Examination Council. THE EXAMINATION The Examination is conducted by the Examination Council pursuant to Section 4(1)(ga) of the Architects Act 1967.

The Examination Council may appoint an Examination Panel consisting of such members from among registered Professional Architects and other qualified persons, to assist in conducting the Part I and/or Part II Examination. The Examination is conducted in the following manner: Stage 1 Stage 2 Stage 3 - Review of school syllabus, course content and academic transcripts. Review of candidate's course work portfolio and Oral Examination Integrated Design Project (IDP) if required, upon failing Stage 2. (Refer to paragraph 4.6)

4.4 A candidate who fails to meet the minimum requirement at Stage 1 stipulated shall not be allowed to proceed with the Examination. 4.5 4.6 A candidate who passes the Stage 1 and Stage 2 Examination is deemed to have passed the Part I and/or Part II Examination. A candidate who is unsuccessful at Stage 2 is deemed not to have fully satisfied the requirements of the Examination and shall be required to appear for the Stage 3 Examination. A candidate who has successfully completed the Stage 3 Examination is deemed to have passed the Part I and/or Part II Examination. A candidate who is unsuccessful at the Stage 3 Examination may apply to resit the Examination up to a maximum of three (3) times. The candidate may apply to resit the Examination by submitting evidence of two (2) years working experience with architectural firm.

APPLICATIONS Applications to sit for the Part I and/or Part II Examination shall be made in the prescribed Form available from the Examination Council at the Secretariat of the Board. The Form may also be downloaded from the Boards website at www.lam.gov.my . Applicants are required to submit the following with their applications: 5.2.1 For Stage 1: a) a certified true copy of identity card or passport, academic certificates and examination transcripts; b) the Syllabus and Curriculum of the applicants course in the School from which the applicant qualified; c) the prescribed examination fee.

For Stage 2: a) after having cleared Stage 1, applicants are required to submit full portfolio of their works in the School of Architecture listed as per Proforma supplied. The portfolio shall be in its original form. Photographs, reproduction or reduction to reasonable size shall only be accepted at the absolute descretion of the Panel. Digital copies are not acceptable; and b) an original copy of documents stipulated as per 5.2.1 (a)

All submissions except copies of certificates are returnable to the candidate. The Board shall exercise reasonable care but shall not be responsible for any loss or damage to the submission which may occur either in transit or packing.

6.0 6.1 6.2

EXAMINATION FEES The application must be accompanied with the examination fee as prescribed in the Application Form. A candidate who is unsuccessful at Stage 2 (refer to Clause 4.6) and is required to proceed to the Stage 3 Examination shall pay an additional fee, an amount to be determined by the Examination Council.

6.3 Examination fees are non-refundable.

7.0

FREQUENCY OF EXAMINATION

7. 1 Stage 1 and Stage 2 Examinations are held twice a year. The closing dates for applications for the Examinations are on every 28th February and 30th August of the year. 7.2 Stage 3 Examination (IDP) is held once a year. The closing date for application for the Examination is on every 30th June of the year.

8.0 8.1

VENUE OF THE EXAMINATION The venue of the Examination shall be as determined by the Examination Council.

SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATES Successful candidates shall be issued with a certificate by the Examination Council. Candidates who pass the Part I and/or Part II Examination shall be eligible to register as Graduate Architects with the Board.

10.0 GENERAL 10.1 All costs incurred in taking the Examination shall be fully borne by the applicant. 10.2 The decision of the Examination Council shall be final. 10.3 Any fraudulent submission shall be disqualified.
