This document summarizes a study of benthic macroinvertebrates and fish in the lower stretches of the Morava and Dyje rivers in the Czech Republic. Over the past few decades, water quality in the rivers has improved significantly after heavy pollution in previous decades. As a result, the diversity and abundance of both benthic macroinvertebrates and fish has partially recovered. A total of 262 and 137 taxa of macrozoobenthos were recorded in the Dyje and Morava rivers respectively. Several rare and protected species of fish were also found, including species classified as vulnerable or critically endangered. Both rivers have also been invaded by round goby, an invasive fish species.
