Dr.

Hayes Wicker, Senior Pastor

Treasures
This week, German police raided the apartment of a man suspected of money-laundering and made an amazing discovery. His apartment was filled with a stolen art collection which had been originally confiscated by the Nazis prior to World War II. He had been living off of various pieces of art, selling them occasionally at relatively low prices. Valued at over $1 billion, the collection, which includes works by Picasso and Chagall, remains in a warehouse near Munich. The authorities are trying to return the works of art to their original owners. In the Lords church, we know that Gods workmanship in Christ Jesus is in the good works of His born-again believers who have trusted Christ and not their own deeds (Ephesians 2:8-10). That word, workmanship, can also be translated as poem or masterpiece. We have this treasure in earthen vessels, so that the surpassing greatness of the power will be of God and not from ourselves (2 Corinthians 4:7). You are so valuable that Christ paid the ultimate price of His death for your redemption. Your good works are a P.S. saying, Thank you. Gods servants are also His great treasures and gifts to the Body, He gave gifts to men (Ephesians 4:7, 8). While pastors and church staff members ought to be highly valued, so should those who equip the next generation, For the work of service to the building up of the body of Christ (Ephesians 4:12). We are thrilled to have in our pulpit today one of the kingdoms most treasured leaders in Dr. David Allen, Dean of the School of Theology at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. He is also a Professor of Preaching, Director of the Southwestern Center for Expository Preaching, and the George W. Truett Chair of Ministry. Dr. Allen is widely sought after as a preacher and is a noted scholar as the author of the Hebrews study in the New American Commentary series. He passionately believes and has written that Luke is the author of that great book of the Bible. He has served as a Senior Pastor of two churches for 21 years and is a powerful representative of my alma mater and that of my wife and son Southwestern Seminary. Satan cannot steal Gods art collection. We are determined that He Who has given good gifts to His children (Matthew 7:11) does not want us to hide our light under a basket, but on the lamp stand of His church (Matthew 5:14). Pray for Dr. Allen and all who know the light of the World. We are also grateful for Gods treasure of other gifted ministers. Be in prayer for John David Edie and his family as he comes in view of a call as our Associate Pastor of Discipleship next weekend. We will be voting by secret ballot in all services. You will love his spirit, vision, winsome personality, and potential. Thank God for those whom give light to all who are in the house (Matthew 5:15).
