Newsletter 5
Dear Parents,

I can almost hear those bells jingling alreadybut I wont mention it yet! This term is so full up of activities and opportunities that it will speed by.

Thank you A big thank you to all of you who brought in the Bags2School for the collection even at such short notice. We collected 228kg in total which gave us a total cash amount of 114 for School funds. Watch this space for future collections... Parental questionnaire Thank you to those of you who have shared your views on Parentview. Please remember, I will not be circulating a paper version of a questionnaire to gather parental views, as the online Parentview does the job much more efficiently. At each whole school parent information evening/consultation evenings, there will be laptops set up for you to complete one if you have not had the opportunity to complete one at home. You do need to register on the site initially, but this then carries forward each year. The link is: http://parentview.ofsted.gov.uk/
Please do continue to come and see us with any questions or queries you may have.

Requests and reminders I know that car parking at the start and end of each school day is a challenge, but please respect the zigzags for the safety of all. Once the bus has been and gone, the area immediately in front of the main pedestrian gate can be used as a drop off zone in the mornings, but some cars are being parked on the zig zags by the carpark entrance which obscures vision and blocks the pavement. Please make sure all children have everything they need in school including PE kit and asthma inhalers. Please remember that we need direction from you if there are any changes to arrangements for collection of children we cannot take the childrens word for it. Preferably inform us in writing, in note form or email, but a phone call to the office to confirm last minute changes is better than us not knowing! We have had several instances recently of local teenagers using the school grounds out of school hours, and there have been some acts of vandalism. We are going to have to replace the doors on the PE shed as a result of one such incident. Thank you to those of you who kept an eye over the half term break, and can I ask you all to be vigilant in keeping eyes peeled and reminding visitors that it is private property. Thank you for your help and understanding in these matters. Out of School Club We had good uptake when we opened the Club for childcare on Mondays INSET day and it was a great success. We will, therefore, be offering this service for future INSET days. It will run from 8:15am until

3:30pm at a cost of 20 per child (only children currently on roll at Leighterton School) and children need to bring a packed lunch and drinks for the day. Booking slips will be attached to a Newsletter nearer the time. Our remaining INSET days for this School year are: Monday 6th January; Monday 24th February; and Monday 2nd June. Remember there is also now a drop-off option from 8:15am each morning at a cost of 3 per session for those of you who would find this beneficial. Please remember to sign your child in, in the Out of School Club room. Feedback so far is positive, and the take up for this service is increasing.
Cinema Visit & Halloween Disco

As ever, our children were impeccably behaved during our recent trip to see The Croods at
Stroud Cinema, and all the children had a great time. The Halloween discos were well attended and very scary, with some super costumes and great behaviour again. Thanks once again to the PTFA for their involvement in both these events.

PTFA The PTFA work extremely hard to raise funds to support the school and provide resources and opportunities we would otherwise struggle to fund. They are currently funding a set of cameras for children to use across the school, a sheltered area, and i-pads for use by all pupils. As well as this, they continue to support enrichment opportunities and contribute to the costs of theatre trips and visits. Please do support the fundraising in any way you can all children benefit greatly from it. The next event is the Race Night on November 15th, so come along for a fun evening! The evening will start at 7:30pm, with the first race at 8pm. (Please note that this is for adults only, not children.) Tickets are available from the School office and, whether you are attending the evening or not, you can buy and name horses for 5 each. Horses are available to buy until Thursday from the school office. The winning owner in every race receives a prize. Children in Need Next Friday sees the annual Children in Need charity fund raiser. The School Council will be selling Pudsey and Blush wrist bands at the price of 1 each throughout next week. Clubs Thanks to parents who have come forward, we are now able to offer a Cross Country Club (KS2) and a Hi 5 Netball Club (Y5/6) as well as the other clubs that are already up and running. Mrs Turner will be leading the Cross Country Club each Monday and Mrs Crowe and Mrs Dann Ward will be running the Netball each Tuesday after school. These clubs will start w/c 18th November. (All other clubs have continued with the exception of Fencing due to the fact there was not enough interest.) If you would like your child to be involved in either of these, please complete the slip in the usual way. I cannot thank all our volunteers enough for everything they do to support our school. Christmas boxes Please remember to bring any Christmas boxes for Operation Christmas Child you have prepared to the office by this Wednesday (13th November) as I will be taking them to the drop off point on Thursday. Thank you. easyfundraising.org.uk As you start (or finish) your Christmas Shopping, please remember that utilising the easyfundraising toolbar is a totally painless way to raise funds for our school. Simply go to the website, go to support a good cause, select Leighterton School and then click each time you shop online. Useful website: www.backtoschoolmagazine.com
