To reduce the development of drug-resistant bacteria and maintain the effectiveness of AUGMENTIN (amoxicillin/ clavulanate potassium) and other antibacterial drugs, AUGMENTIN should be used only to treat infections that are proven or strongly suspected to be caused by susceptible bacteria. When culture and susceptibility information are available, they should be considered in selecting or modifying antibacterial therapy.
Augmentin is contraindicated in patients with a history of allergic reactions to any penicillin. It is also contraindicated in patients with a previous history of Augmentinassociated cholestatic jaundice/ hepatic dysfunction
B-lactam antibiotic w/ B-lactamase inhibitor Spectrum. Augmentin works by inhibiting the synthesis of bacterial cell walls.
Abdominal discomfort, allergic reactions, vomiting, diarrhea, rash, nausea, hyperactivity, drowsiness.
* Evaluate for infection, use barrier contraception, *Monitor for S&S of a rash (usually occurring within a few days after start of drug) suggestive of a hypersensitivity reaction. * If it occurs, look for other signs of hypersensitivity (fever, wheezing, generalized itching, dyspnea), and report to physician immediately. *Report onset of generalized, erythematous, maculopapular rash (ampicillin rash) to physician.
